It's hunting season and I've been trying to come up with a hunter design that I can do a run on. Thinking back on my favorite hunters I've seen this year.. I keep going back to some of Samuel Lurquin's knives. This knife is inspired by his work in terms of over-all profile. I'm gonna make a few of these over the next couple of weeks...and I decided this one would be a bit heavier in the hand for those who like that feel. So there is less distal taper in the tang and more thickness in the spine than what I normally do... but it actually makes for a nice balance. The steel is a billet I've been playing with that is composed of 15n20 bandsaw blades and 1084. The blades are left with teeth intact and powdered 1084 is sprinkled into the billet while it's sitting on it side to fill the void left by the teeth. I have another billet in the mix that will be 100 or so layers... but this is just a 6 layer piece to see what it looks like as straight laminate. It's about 7" OAL and 3/16" at the spine tapering to the tip. The handle is Claro walnut with copper spacers....

Forgot to add this one:

Also forgot to mention the 'spontaneous hamon' that formed. You can't see it very well in the picture... but it is pretty complex for a 1084ish blade. Usually it's just a vague cloud.

Very cool......and I can see Sam's influence immediately in the handle and then extending out to the blade............

Love Sam's knives and really have been impressed w/all the knives I've seen you post. If you ever make blades (not for an order, but just to sell) put me on your mailing list. I love your own flair and style!! Reminds me of a time long ago, but w/a modern twist. :D

That's an attractive piece for sure. I can see the Lurquin profile now that you mention it, but you have clearly taken that inspiration and made this your own knife. Very nice.

That knife is beautiful! Fantastic work, just a really great looking piece. The blade is especially appealing.

Keep up the good work Scott your knives our starting to have this scott Roush look to them thats a good thing

Thanks a lot folks.... It went without metal hardware to speed up the make for the Wisconsin Fall show... Haven't done a full tang like that in a while! The next will be a frame....
