I need some advice on my next multitool. For years I have carried an original Leatherman Supertool; a great piece of equipment, but lately it seems to have gotten lots heavier. Wife suggests that it could be part of the same syndrome that has turned most of my hair grey, but I kind of doubt that. Anyway, I have just spent too much time looking at a bewildering selection of multi tools on line and decided I need some suggestions from you guys.

Basically, here’s what I need:

1. Needle Nose Pliers w/wire cutter
2. Large and Small Flat Screwdrivers
3. Philips Head Screwdriver
4. Awl Blade

Those are the ones I use most. My “Nice-To-Have-But-Not-Absolutely-Necessary” list would include:

5. Replaceable Hack Saw Blade
6. Wood Saw Blade

Finally, I would like to be lots lighter in weight than my Leatherman Super Tool – which is why I posted the question to begin with - but not at the expense of making it too small for my mitts. Titanium seems kind of pricy, but I’d consider it.

As always, any suggestions most appreciated.

Wait for the Rebar.
if not that, the core is a good one if you can find it, sidekick, wingman, charge series, wave. Good luck.

If you want to go smaller check out the Juice series. I've carried an S2 for years and it fits 99% of your criteria (no awl). They are lighter and more "pocketable", but still extremely useful.

I agree with the juice being the smallest functional MT although if you're looking for full sized the charge tti feels lighter to me than its full steel or aluminum counterparts. I carry a tti as my edc . It has a removable pocket clip so I wear it clipped to my LF pocket and I barely know its there.

You could try to carry a victorinox fieldmaster and have a pair of pliers at home, the car, and work- that way there will always be pliers handy but you don't have to lug them around.

The Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X is a great choice! It weighs in at 7.3 ounces (207gm) and the handle length alone(excludes the pliers head) is 4½ inches(104mm).

Sonds like you need the LM Rebar when it comes out. To bad LM doesnt ditch the little screwer on the Wave, Charge MT`s and replace it with an awl. While it doesnt have an awl the Gerber MP400 is nice light MT.

Thanks for all the advice. Went back and looked at choices in local shop. Final decision: pre-ordered a Rebar. Mush as I have this need for instant gratification when it comes to things of steel, it just seemed like everything else was much too wimpy (when compared to my original Supertool), even allowing for the lower weight. And a heafty plier was important. Looks like the Rebar will be best compromise. Now, if I can just stand to wait out the month…. Well, maybe there is something else I might just need in the mean time……………!

Good thinking.

I have a ST300, but it's way too big for EDC, so I switched to the Juice CS, great tool in a more EDC friendly package. It will be interesting to see the Juice vs Rebar.

+1 on the swisstool spirit x, I have one and two regular size swisstools as well as two leathermans, swisstools just feel more quality all around, I also like the locking mechanisms on them better, and some of the tool shapes.
