I just saw an episode of "COPS" and an idiot was chasing a security guard around with the knife blade of a multi-tool. It seems we can't have anything without some freakin' idiot trying to make it into a weapon.

Glad I wasnt the only one to see it. Well atleast the idiot only managed cut himself. It looked to me like it folded up on his fingers but I could be wrong. I think the cop should of let the dog have some fun with the guy. How about you? Just kidding. Sort of.

kevin,
I was kind of surprised how the cop handled that. He just kept following the guy around saying "get on the floor". I was waiting for him to knock him down or something? What if the guy had ran? I don't know about that one....He should of let the dog .....well never mind.

LOL... I missed that one but it sounds interesting. I've always wanted to see a COPS 'Untold Stories' version. I'd be particularly interested in seeing the clips they don't show on TV. Every once in awhile th BG is struggling really hard with a few boys in Blue and just as it gets REALLY interesting they cut to another shot and the next you see of the BG he's sporting a couple more bruises or bleeding slightly and he is MUCH more compliant. Those would be some interesting frames of film I bet.

Well with the cameras there he really couldnt do to much to the guy with out someone saying it was "police brutallity". If he would have been able to get up and run then the cop probably would have let the dog loose. Just keeping the guy off balance until the other officers got there was enough I guess. Oh and I to would like to see that Untold Stories episode. Ive heard some stories but I would really like to have some actual footage. The only problem is like what I mentiond before . People would cry "police brutallity" and want all those cops fired. Well Id better not get started on that cause I wont stop. Just to keep this on topic What was that multitool? Leatherman Wave?

I didn' t see that episode. Nor do I know if it showed the entire scenario. But perhaps the multi tool wielding guy was not necessarily an "idiot". In many jurisdictions, LEOs who percieve an individual as an EDP may not act (physical) without first calling in for their supervisor to be present at the scene. Dept policy or politics, those are the facts. And of course there can be no argument as to the potential results of any edged weapon in the hands of any individual, EDP or otherwise.

As for that security guard, well I wouldn' t attempt a tackle either. Why risk bodily harm unless your life and limb is in eminent danger? "Dial 911 before reaching for 1911".

Let's also not forget that in some cases the
"cry" of police brutality remains justified
and correct. LEOs *do* have a responsibility
to insure any application of force is done in
accordance with the law and in an manner that
is appropriate to the situation -- I think we
all know this isn't always the case.

IMHO a LEO who can defuse a situation without
application of force deserves recognition.

Finally caught a rerun of that episode and it looked to me like the officer had somewhat of a 'green' canine officer. The dog, I believe, was a Belgian Malinois and they are incredibly strong and dedicated which appears to have made controlling the canine much more difficult. In other similar episodes I've seen dogs more easily handled so perhaps after a little time the canine officer will be in a better training condition to handle that situation. Beautiful dog though and they BG was a moron for not following orders drunk or not. Nice to know that he threw the weapon and instead relied on screaming out prayers for protection which is a nice change of pace.

Actually it was probably VG and his deadly Leatherman Micra

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
