so im curious, what do yall prefer, a multi tool ie leatherman or a multi purpose knife such as a sak. which one and why?

I carry both. I always carry my SAK Executive that I've been carrying since the late '90s. And on my belt, I carry a Victorinox Spirit multi-tool. Prior to my Spirit, I carried a number of Leatherman tools, but find I prefer the Victorinox better. The Executive and the Spirit make a good combo, because each has features and characteristics the other lacks, so they complement each other perfectly.

I carry a gerber multi tool in my back pack everyday just in case I need the pliers. It is rare that I ever use it or need it. I carry SAKS on me almost all the time and turn to it daily for something. It provides the tools I need and much easier to carry. I also feel the functionality of using the tools are easier than multi tools. You don't have to do a bunch work to get the tool open hand ready to use like you do on a lot of multi tools. The other thing is with a SAK they never break. You can always count on it.

I've been kind of schizophrenic on the subject since I've been carrying a small Leatherman for most of the past year. A Leatherman micra and squirt has replaced a Victorinox classic as my edc pocket tool, but I still love SAK's. Someitmes I'll carry my old tinker or Wenger SI, but then go back to the Leatherman.

So far, we're still undecided.

:D

I love both, but I carry a Victorinox considerably more often than a plier based tool. I just don't use the pliers that often. I think of the Victorinox more as a knife that can do some other handy things. For the most part my day to day needs are covered well by the blade on my Victorinox.

The answer for me is yes, all the time. Depends on what I'm doing and how I'm carrying. I need pliers often enough to carry a multi-tool, but it works very well backed up with a SAK. To me the only right answer is that right now I'd rather carry a medium MT backed with a medium SAK rather than a large MT or over-stuffed SAK.

So now I'm gonna state mine. I carry my leather man wave I have two saks but I like the wave much better. Blade I like better and is more easily accessible when I need it, I use the pliers and it's not much harder to carry than a sak plus it's screwdrivers are great for me

I carry my Victorinox Explorer all the time. Once kept a Leatherman Supertool on my belt while working but always got the SAK handy.

Vic alox Cadet in pocket. LM Squirt P4 and LM Juice S2 in bag. I used to carry the Squirt in a pocket but I don't need it as often as I used to. Bag is within reach of my desk at work if I need a MT for something.

In my pocket I always carry a SAK, mostly a Pioneer. It's small, light and provides most tools I use on a daily basis. In my work bag I keep a Leatherman Charge TTi, in case I might need pliers or some other tool that's not on my SAK.

Usually, I carry one each, depending on expectations for the day, season or "just because." Almost always, my EDC consists of a full size one and a keychain size other. Last evening I attended a party, so my loadout was SAK Sportsman in LF and Micra in 5th pocket, anticipating light, if any use. Sonofagun! The host's corkscrew went missing , and in the general consternation, my wife piped up that I had a Swiss Army Knife. Saved! SAK to the rescue! For the 3d time in as many decades, I got to be the beverage hero. My advice; even if you don't drink wine, it is wise to carry a SAK with a corkscrew because someday it just might boost your prestige :D .
