Has anybody modified their Leatherman, SAK, gerber etc., in order to improve or change the function of a particular implement or tool?

I have flattened and squared the drivers on my SAKs and sharpened the can openers on some LMs, but I would like to hear what others consider the best 'improvements' to their tools.

P.S. Has anyone figured out how to sharpen the "wire-stripper" on a SAK? They are smooth and useless, and I cannot seem to find a way to get in and impose a beveled edge. On my LM crunch, the wire stripper is sharp and actually works fairly well.

Thanks,

I have a Schrade Tough Tool and by way of "misuse", I broke the can opener. I managed to grind down what was left of it and ended up with an implement which looks like a punch awl and/or prying tool. I use this more than I ever would have used the can opener ;)

Haven't dared to do that yet, fully knowing that I might void my warranty doing those "tricking out" things... :grumpy:

I had to sharpen the can opener on my Leatherman Juice S2 since it could not open a can in its factory configuration. About 5 minutes on a stone put an edge on it similar to an SAK and now it works fine.

hey i dun want to break my warranty so i suggest u just to stick with yr tool.... :p

btw, juice own SAk for free.... :D

I doubt sharpening an implement would void your leatherman warranty. Sharpening the knife doesn't...

Anyway, All the Juices I own needed their can openers and awls sharpened.

Also, has _anyone_ figured out a way to make the "wire stripper" on a SAK useable (i.e. sharp) ?

-i exchanged the can opener from my gerber 400 compact sport with the file from my gerber 600 deluxe.
-I grinded the smallest screwdriver of the gerber compact(it was to stumb)
-I grinded the medium screwdriver of my gerber recoil cause i had no grip.
-i filed the sides of my wave so the handles wouldn't hurt when using the knives(just helped a little bit)--> alleluia for the charge ti :)
-and i also had to fille the wiredutter of my gerber multiplier when i used it on a little to hard wire. :D

ciao,

mike
