I am looking for a new Multi-Tool, specifically one that will clip to my pants pocket. Being able to open the knife blade one handed would also be a big plus. This tool is for work (I work in a Nuclear Plant) so I need to take into account that it could potentially become contaminated and not allowed out of the RCA (though I have not lost any personal tools in the 6+ years that I have worked here). I have a Leatherman Supertool and a couple of Gerbers and have no real preference (though I have damaged cutting jaws on the Gerbers cutting locking tabs), but they are too awkward to carry without a pouch (and do not have a pocket clip). Suggestions on which model and why it is preferable will be greatly appreciated.

There might be others out there, but the only one that pops to mind that meets the (1) clip to pocket and (2) one handed blade opening criteria is the Leatherman Wave. Depending on your needs, if you cannot carry something on your belt, there are smaller multi-tools that allow for comfortable pocket carry. I personally don't know of many that have one handed blade opening though.

The Leatherman Sideclip satisfies criterion 1 (clips to pocket), but not 2 (one-handed opening).

It is, however, far cheaper than the Wave if loss or sequestration is possible...

Thanks for the info so far. As suggested I am reposting this question to the Multi-tools & Multi-purpose Knives Forum.

Thanks,

The Gerber Recoil Auto Plier would satisfy the one hand opening requirement. The pliers may be opened at the push of a button once the safety is moved from safe to ready.
