Hello. I'm not sure if I'm in the correct forum here, but I'd like to know what experiences you've had with various multi-tools. I'd like one, and my wife (who repairs Dell computer laptops for a living) are both interested. We are looking at a Kershaw catolog here, a model called A100CTA, for example, but I warned her that I've read from you experts here that they are a hard company to deal with. Kinda pricy too. Your thoughts?

For computer repair, I highly recommend the Victorinox Cybertool 34. It’s got multiple screwdriver bits for installing parts, two blades for box opening and cutting, scissors, pliers….. the works. It’s also smaller than many full-sized multitools. I’m a network engineer, and the rest of my tools just gather dust now. Awesome quality.

For more general utility work, hand size is a big factor. Larger tools like the Victorinox SwissTool, Leatherman SuperTool, and SOG PowerLock are just too big for my hands. I’m much more comfortable with something like the Leatherman Juice or Leatherman Pulse. I also hear that the SOG Crossgrip is great.

Thanx Buzzbait. You prolly just gave me a good idea for an Xmas gift for my wife, if I can find it. :-)

I think that most folks would agree that victorinox, leatherman, and SOG and the preferred companies for Multitools (not necessarily in that order) The swisstool, wave, and powerpliers seem to be the most recommended from each manufacturer when this topic comes up. I also play with computers, and I prefer something a little smaller than the models mentioned. I think that buzzbait is right on with the cybertool 34. I personally use a leatherman juice S2 most of the time. I like the size, weight, and combination of tools for my purpose. (but I don't have a cybertool, I may prefer that though)

I started out as a technician and am now a network engineer. I have used a Leatherman Super Tool for about 7 or 8 years. I choose it for the longer phillips screw driver bit. The phillips and the narrow tips on the pliers were my most used tools. I recently switched to a PowerLock just for something different. It's still in the "gettin' used to" stage but I can say that I miss the longer phillips. I have not checked out the CyberTool yet, but if the tools are longer than others you compare it to, then it should be the best bet. Just for reference, my wife (who is NOT a tech) does not like either the Super Tool or the PowerLock. I'm sure she would use the Victorinox over either.

For computer repair in general and especially for laptop repair, I'd go with the Victorinox Cybertool 34. The screwdrivier is fantastic. Also, I've been told, but haven't verified, that wiha microbits (available from http://www.wihatools.com/) will fit the bit socket on the Cybertool 29|34|41, if one really wanted to carry just one tool.

On the contrary, I've used my friend's Swisstool's phillips screwdriver to tinker with his computer, and the long screwdriver bit actually causes more trouble than good.
If you're using the Powerlock and need the 90 degree driver to sneak in to narrow places, take off the tool cover for that side of the powerplier. That should help a bit.

Gotta chime in for the Victo Cybertool 34 also. I am the Systems Manager for the Sheriffs' Association here, and support several related agencies as well, and the Cybertool is what I carry EVERY day.

I have a Leatherman PST, Supertool and a SOG Paratool, and the Cybertool is much handier and more useful to me on a day to day basis. The others stay at home in a drawer.
