I know it really depends on who is at the security point, but is a (for example) Leatherman tool with a half-serrated knife blade generally considered more okay than a pure knife that has serrations?

This paranoia about serrations is stupid and it's been gone into ad nauseum, but all three of my Leatherman tools have serrated blades on them.

I can't remember a guard even unfolding my everpresent Leatherman PST. I just slip the sheath off my belt (I have the clip-on sheath) and put the whole thing right in the change tray along with my everpresent Benchmade AFCK (with combo blade), my keys, watch, whatever other metal I might have on me, and hand the pile to the guard. They usually open the sheath, maybe slide the PST part way out, and push it back in, and hand it all back to me.

What's my secret? Simple: realize that the guards judge the book by its cover. They judge people by their appearance. They have to. They have about two seconds to decide what to think about you. So, look like a gentleman, act like a gentleman, speak like a gentleman, and even Mike's Halo

becomes just a gentleman's pocket knife by association. Well, maybe not quite that far, but you get the idea anyway.
