I'm thinking of getting a multitool for pocket carry with clip. Through experience I know I won't EDC something that needs a sheath.

Aside from the Leatherman New Wave and Charge, and the Core and Surge, what multitool options are there out there for clipped pocket carry?

There is also the Leatherman Sideclip which is probably still available some places and the new Leatherman Kick. Neither of these two have locking blades though. Some of the people have been able to add a clip to some tools here in the forums, such as to a swisstool spirit. Hope this is of some help

They're a bit hard to find at the moment, but the Spyderco SpydeRench has a clip built in.

Seems to me I saw a Buck with a clip a while back. Not sure if it still exists, or if Buck multi-tools are any good.

I would go with a Leatherman.

Hello Carlos, if you are looking for a light weight multi ....the Kick has an optional clip!.....you could also add the optional removable bit driver to make it even more useful

Carlos ,

As mentioned above Leatherman has several models

The Sog tool clip and micro clip both discontinued but occasionaly available on ebay

The Spyderench is frequently available on ebay ( 3 variations of knife blades )
currently on auction at ;

Fiskar - gerber made a shear rather than a plier based multi called the Excalibur that sometimes can be still found

That would be most of the name brands that I am aware of .

:o Oh well...

I visited a knife shop today. They had the New Wave and the Swisstool on display.

I managed to break one of the tools on the New Wave in less than one minute of handling it. Don't ask... :o

Looks like I need something at least as tough as the Swisstool, which escaped unscathed even though I handled it 3x as much.

I think the SwissTool is actually the toughest of its kind that you can buy right now. I would put the SOG PowerLock as a very close second and the Leatherman SuperTool 200 third.

"Don't ask" whaddaya, kidding? Of course we have to ask! What part and how?

The scissors. Couldn't get them fully closed into the handle again, then closed the tool thinking that it might do it. Snapped one of the scissor handles off.

In this case the New Wave fails the idiot-proof test. ;)

Wow, and holy bovine! I have a Charge Ti coming (maybe today) to replace a lost PST-II and I'll give it a good workout...

Leatherman does have a 25-year warranty, and it's probably to catch the occasional fluke like that one.
What with the rash of Chinese ripoff copies of Victorinox SAK's I wonder if "somebody" isn't also knocking off Leathermen products?

My PST-II withstood everything I threw at it in 5 years time before I lost it last week. It seems really out of character for genuine Leatherman steel to break while in the store, y'know?

Thanks for filling in the story!

OK, the Charge Ti did arrive just now... it is a bit bigger than I expected, perhaps twice as thick as the PS-II.

The liner lock for the 154cm blade engages all the way to the right if the user opens the blade with some snap; otherwise it's centered which is fine with me, in fact just what I'd want in a brand new piece.

For those who've read the review about the nylon sheath where the reviewer laments about the velcro, here's some good news: the leather sheath is outfitted with a snap instead of velcro, MUCH better IMO.

All the tools lock just fine- it's really more of a machine than a tool set, very comfortable to hold, and the millimeter and inches markings are lots easier to read than they were on the original PST's.

So far so good. :D

PS in regards to the leather sheath...

Although the idea seems to be that the Charge can be carried with the pliers open and the jaws poking out through a hole in the bottom of the sheath... in the instance of my sheath anyway, the hole is not large enough to prevent the pliers' jaws from being captured by the holes' edges in two places.

If the hole were oval or larger, this probably wouldn't happen, but as it is, once you poke the Charge down far enough to close the flap, the tool is stuck down there and it's really a hassle to get it loose!

It sticks like this on the opposite side, too.

Hopefully in the future they will change the dimension of this hole (I will probably do some careful cutting later) so the feature will be useful. It's a good idea, but hung up on this. It's amazing nobody's noticed this before.
