Someone (Jeff, I think) was joking in a previous thread about a collaboration between Swamp Rat, Busse, ESEE and Becker. The deer hunting was slow today but I had an epiphany.

What if some or all of those companies got together to collaborate on a... throwing knife? Think about it - each company could market this knife (RatBusseESEEBecker Flinger of Doom or something) as the *only* knife in their stable warranted for throwing. You don't have to move a single FOD to make out either. Someone breaks a BK-2 or Junglas by throwing it and tries to tug on Ethan or Jeff's heart (not to mention purse) strings - I'm sorry you were throwing a knife other than our FOD which is the only one warranted for throwing. Thank you for playing - please try again.

Don't like the throwing knife? No problem - how about a tomahawk? Well - a 'hawk head anyway. The customer can make his/her own haft. That'll give 'em something to do with their nice knives other than heaving them.

i just take those one foot long nails, puts a point on one end (two if you're a dirty chetater), and have at it. about uhm, $2 each? :)

The four companies could get together, paint one of those nails flat black and sell it. The point is to provide some throwing widget for people that like to throw stuff *and* to protect themselves from having to warrant non-throwing knives from people that want to throw them.

oh, well, the warranty is simple :)

"breaks our stuff while throwing you did? no new knife for you"

I'd love to see Becker and ESEE collaborate on more projects. I think the BK14 was a hit, and I could see great things in the future...

...either way, I'm looking forward to new things from both companies.

When I was a boy, all my buddies and I threw our sheath knives (probably old leather handled Solingens or equiv). We actually got pretty good with them. We never had one break, ever. That makes me wonder what is the difference today. Higher hardness?

Doc,

You got it. Knives have come a long way. I remember the first knife I saw broken from throwing; it was an early Gerber (When Pete was still at the helm) way back in the early sixties. Most other knives were alot softer then. I guess this says a lot about the hardness of early Gerbers and the stupid tom-foolery that I engaged in when I was young.

MikeyJ,

You may get your wish. SHOT is just around the corner and we ALREADY have plans to go see those crazy ESEE guys and talk about projects.
