Wouldn't it be cool if Kabar made the bk16 in scandi, flat, and saber? I think they would sell a ton of them! I would probably have two of every grind.

I no it will never happen in a scandi. I think I recall reading somewhere on here that Ethan doesn't like scandi so thats out.

I was not in the becker game when the bk16 first came out in saber. Why did they start making them flat grind?

The reason they made them saber to begin with was because at the time kabar roll stamped every blade, which will not work on flat grinds. Once they got the equipment to laser etch them the switched it to a FFG, which Ethan prefers. So I doubt the will switch up te grinds anytime soon

I'll just say this... trust in E's designs. It's all about geometry anyways, and I think E nails it every time.

The Omnipotent Creator has said in another thread that the saber grind gave a very minor increase in strength and the full flat grind is better suited for cutting... and cutting is what a knife this size needs to do.

I really love the look of a good saber grind, actually I don't think I've ever seen a saber grind that I haven't liked, but if Mr. Becker says a FFG is better then that's good enough for me =)

I'd take a saber or FFG grind over a scandi any day. Scandi works well in a few situations. That being said, scandi sucks in the kitchen compared to FFG. FFG knives tend to cut straight whereas scandi knives tend to want to wander all over the place.

Scandi works well in one situation: wood (or other equally as hard substance). Anywhere else, I've found that scandi < FFG
