I keep looking at a 18" AK, a 20" AK, a 21" Gelbu Special, and a BAS this will be my first Kukri and I would like one for self-defense and cutting wood and a second one for a BOB. I want a bit of a longer edge with a Horn handle.

Any opinions and suggestions would be of great help.

There's an 18" Gelbu on the 11/18 Deals of the day. I think it's a wood handle but looks nice.

Cutting wood and self defense are often times opposite ends of the use spectrum. While the wood cutter could certainly be used for defense while cutting wood, a lighter more nimble blade would be much preferred for a dedicated self defense blade.

Regardless these things are like potato chips, once you get one you won't rest until you get another one or if your like most of us here 10 or 12 and counting.

Enjoy the hunt, that's the best part of it all. Your certainly in the right hunting grounds, no need to expand the search.

A 20" AK will weigh 3 pounds+ so I'd go for the 21 gelbu at 32 oz or less. The BAS is a great choice for your BOB.

Ok, I gotta know? What is a BOB? Hope I'm not gonna look incredibly dumb for asking.

Yup, not always a big bag though. I like to have a 24hr ruck handy to get me from here to there in case we get that big shaker and all the bridges go. Great place to tuck a KLVUK.

Welcome The_Hunter, btw I'm in the same boat as you in planning my first khukuri. I feel an addiction coming on though.
Slugger

My BOB is just a backpack (enough supplies for 4 people for a couple days, and to "rough it for longer periods", if need be); and have our family 7 day kit for 4 people tucked in between two i-beams at home. I'm like slugger, if the "big one" comes a calling, I'm ready. I've got my AK, Mini Bowie, and a CS SRK, in my BOB, and the honker Bonecutter, and CS Carbon V Laredo Bowie in my main bag, and a sidearm in each bag with extra rounds.

I started out on 15" ak, I am a pretty big guy.going a little bigger next time myself. good luck.
