Hey guys, thought I'd quickly share my experience carrying a Gerber Dime onboard a Carnival cruise ship since this question pops up from time to time.
Boarding the ship and going through security we had to place all items in our pockets into our carry-on bags that needed to pass through the x-ray machine.
My little Dime went through without issues, and on top of that I was able to get another couple of tools onboard, although by accident. My carry-on was the same bag I carry camping, and when I got to my room and unpacked I realized I brought a 10 inch pruning saw and a Mora #1 with me.
So, though carrying any multitool or knife onboard always carries risk of loss to security, my experience has been favorable.
With so many people boarding and security working quickly to get people through I think it was an oversight that the saw and knife got through. Perhaps the guys looking at the x-ray are specifically looking for certain shapes that would indicate more dangerous contraband (guns?) and knives and such are more easily missed.
Hope this helps anyone with the question of carrying any kind of tool on their next cruise. Although I didn't need mine a single time I'll pack it again next time.
