My buddies and I keep getting into the same argument about our multi's.This one has better quality blah blah blah.So I figured I'd put it to the jury.4 brands of multi tools with roughly the same sets of tools. The choices are:

Leatherman Core

Swisstool (standard)

SOG Powerlock

Gerber Multi-Plier

These tools would be EDC'd daily during the week (warehouse work involving fish, blood, slime and water) and used as a back-up to a bushcrafting knife on the weekends for extended hiking trips.
I'm gonna pull a high school test on this one and ask why you picked that particular multi.

Personally, I would find that the Swisstool would probably have the best fit and finish. That said, if you are meticulous like I am about not letting your tools get overly dirty/clean them often, then I think that the powerlock might be your best bet.

The Gerber isn't even in the running, IMHO. The Core is nice, but besides the longer tools/blades I don't think it has anything on the SOG.

The SOG can be broken down with a couple of 1/4" sockets, cleaned, reassembled and put back into the field. Also, the SOG tool bits, while much more crudely finished than the Vic or even the LM, are replaceable at very reasonable costs.

This is the main reason I have been packing a Powerlock for the better part of a year without really ever needing anything "better".

Hi,

I may be one of the few that will say I like my Gerber, a Compact Sport. I prefer the one handed opening. I've had no problems with it being a palm biter. Perhaps because I have larger hands. And when using it to cut heavy stranded electrical wire, (like 12ga. stranded for 3ph cords), it won't fold up on me if a copper wire jams in the wire cutters. My LM Kick does that to me enough not want to carry it if I know I'm going to being doing electrical type stuff. I've had no problems with the tools after 3 months of use.

I like the lighter weight of my LM Kick, and it has all the tools that I need and no extra. It's a very well made tool that I like. For a tool to the outside design, it's pretty comfortable to grip.

Downside to the SOG and SwissTool is the weight. Ain't going to carry it. I have too much other stuff I need too.

Powerlock, Core, and Gerber 600 are all great tools. Haven't used a Swisstool. I use my Leathermans over all.

Swisstool hasn't let me down yet. I've had three different Leatherman break on me (Wave, Blast, XE6), but not a SAK. I've been using the Vic Super Tinker lately as my "multitool", since I need a comfortable knife and scissors more then a set of pliers, but I have used a Swisstool hard, and it just keeps comin back for more.

Of the lot, I'd saw the Swisstool is probably the best in terms of overall quality, durability, etc. I own an original one.

When I carry a multi-pliers tool, though, mostly I carry my LM Wave.

The only problem I have with my Swisstool is that some of the tools on mine are nail-breakers to access, especially when my hands have been wet and the nails have become soft.

I once handled a Swiss Spirit and the way the tools were arranged, it did not seem to give me the same problems as the regular Swisstool. At some point I may end up getting a Spirit, too.

The Wave is the only Leatherman I like anymore, A far as I know it's the only one that kept the older/stronger style locking mechanism for the blades. The SOG Paratool is also great for a tool in that size. I haven't seen the Swisstool Spirit.
In a big multitool it's gotta be a Powerlock or Swisstool. Both are equal in my opinion with the V'nox having better fit and finish and ability to open the blades without opening the pliers. The SOG with the gearing system works better as pliers and as previously stated the tool blades can easily and cheaply be replaced/exchanged if broken or if you prefer a different arrangement. Personally I dont' even think a Gerber multitool is worth looking at, they are no where near the quality of SOG or V'nox.

Vic Swisstool or the more refined Spirit. Best quality bar none, buff said!

It is an ongoing debate and forever will be! as it should be because it helps make them better.

I like them all (except Gerber because their for kids like trix :p )
but my favorite is Swisstool: for fit, finish, tools, and warranty (lifetime).
