Multitool for fishing?

I found a few threads with a similar title, but the op was more focused on cleaning fish. And I'm fishing for sport not food so my needs are different.

So this will be used strictly for fishing and not as a general EDC. Lately I've been carrying a rusty pair of needle nose pliers, and my SAK fieldmaster.

A little background on the fishing I'm doing- I have a "plake" in my backyard. It's technically a pond, but it takes me 15-20 minutes to canoe from one side to the other. It's filled with lily pads, cat tail and there's a dead, partially submerged tree in the middle where the fish like to hide. This "plake" is home to beaver, catfish, box turtles, snapping turtles and abundant with pickerel which is what I'm mostly going after. Pickerel have teeth so I use pliers to remove the hook, they are also very bony so I don't eat them. The pliers and my SAK that I bring are getting annoying to use. I want a tool that has everything I need. I don't care about the weight, but I'd like to keep it under $50.

What I want is:

-spring action needle nose pliers (stainless)
-a blade (either a serrated and plain edge of a combo edge)
-scissors
-an awl would be great to loosen knots whe I tie up my canoe.

The leatherman wingman has everything you need for under $50.00.

I don't think the pliers are spring action though. I think only the gerbers are spring action, but I like the leather mans much better than the gerbers.

Great post . I use my leatherman juice but two weeks ago a small mouth swallowed the hole hook and I could take the hook out I felt bad I tried for a long time but I couldn't so I let the fish go with the hook . Now I'm looking into a the Wave longer pliers . The rust issue is one that I'll have to deal with . If you leave it in your bag you will have to oil it or clean it .

The Wingman does indeed have spring-loaded pliers. No awl, but if your only use will be loosening knots, it should get the job done anyway.

Not a multi tool but I find this indispensable especially when fishing with braid. Great tool that I hang around my neck to cut leader material and braided line. Can't recommend it enough.

The Wingman will get you there.

The "awl" for undoing knots? Unnecessary, you got this.

I made one of these. Rarely ever use pliers anymore. You don't even have to touch the fish. Just hold the line, get the tool around the bend and shake it off. Tons of trash fish returned to the water in seconds.

Wingman. I got one on closeout at the Big Box store my wife works at for $12 - 15%. Got the last one.

Of course I can take knots out by hand, but same can be said about knives. You don't really need a knife to break down cardboard or open mail, but people use them!

I second the Wingman for a spring loaded tool wotht hose features

Inexpensive, shiny finish resists rust better than Gerber's bead blasting, IME. Good spring, comfortable in hand.

scissors are OK, I dig that you can access them from the outside

Blade is a breeze to sharpen, adn the tool is not too heavy, not too big

And inexpensive!

Aitor Fisherman, if you can find one made in Spain.

It comes apart the way some hobo knives do, so you can use the scissors and pliers (or scissors and knife) at the same time.
