I spend some of my life in Wellington, New Zealand. A place prone to earthquakes and we had a decent one the other day, closed the CBD for a day. I have a bag of stuff in my apartment ready to stay or go with a Vic rescue tool in it. I'm beefing up the bag in my office and thinking about the right multitool to go in there. I have some heaver rescue tools in both places (crowbar, hatchet) but this is a go-bag so the heave tools will get me out of the place and maybe be left behind.
One option would be to get anther rescue tool, I like the idea of standardizing so both bags have the same equipment. Or is this time to change the multi tool, I wonder about a OHT or one of the other large SAKS that adds a saw rather than a belt cutter. Or do I go with a couple of Waves?
Any thoughts?

I think some kind of multitool in an emergency/go-home/bug-out bag is a good idea for an urban setting, and personally, I would recommend something that you are familiar with and with good build and quality. I myself prefer multitool that is self-contained(without the bits) and maybe a separate mini-ratchet set with bits. Amongst dozen of LM and SAK multitools I owed, personal favorite combination will be a Swisstool with its ratchet set+leatherman bits(which could be used with the SAK ratchet).

the leatherman military utility tool is pretty heavy duty, and ive enjoyed my charge tti immensely. the surge is also a large really multipurpose well built multi tool and i think costs a little less.

I think something along the line of the Leatherman Wave/Charge series or Victorinox SwissTool series would be very handy to have in an emergency kit. For EDC, I rarely carry a plier based tool, but in my car I keep one of my SwissTools and I have several of them at home. Pliers can be really handy for repairing or creating things.
