Browsing the SMKW website for multitools, I cam across this one, it comes in SS and blackened. It's only 16.99, at least half less than all the other quality ones, including Gerber's. Anyone ever heard of it? Why is it so cheap?

These were Gerber's first attempt to compete with the Leatherman tool, but came out about the same time as their MultiPlier - go figure! They did sell many to the Gov't and do have a gov't procurment number (hence the name) but I don't think they were/are issued in great numbers - most knowledgable soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines buying a better unit!

The tools themselves are OK, and for the price above will fit anyones needs for such a tool. However the quality isn't as high as it should be for something with the Gerber name on it. It suffers from too much "wiggle".

Big question - does it have the squared Phillips head driver that will accept the 1/4" adapter ?

I just tried mine for you and YES, the MPT phillips works with the tool adaptor.

If you plan to use your multi-tool often get a newer model, you will be swearing frequently at the MPT. If you just want to throw the MPT in your glovebox for emergency use, get it. It's better than any thing else you are likely to find at such a low price. Be careful out there!

In my home state they are issued to National Guard members, not sure about active duty. I tried one, it sucked, get the Multi -tool (1995) and up. RKBA!
