I'm looking for a good quality multitool, fixed blade, and light combo.
I got one from the NRA, but the multitool was crap.

I've tried to find one, but no luck. Does such a thing exist, or am I going to have to
build a custom sheath?

Thanks,

Michael

Not aware of a decent multitool with built-in light. But there are several folding knives with built-in LED lights. None are top brands as I recall, but worth looking at. SOG and Coast are two brands that come to mind.

I'd say just make your own combo sheath, that way you can get exactly what you want, rather than having to compromise.

Combo sheaths aren't the easiest thing to make, here's one I made a few weeks back.

It definitely took some time to get right, but if you're buying high-quality tools, and it's going to be something you wear everyday, then it makes sense to spend the time/money to get it right.

Victorinox makes quite a few SAKs with built-in lights.

I've had a few of those, and while there may be some I am not familiar with that are great, the light output was abysmal on the ones I've had.

Victorinox originally used a 2 MM red LED powered by a 3V lithium button battery (CR 1025). It is good for finding a keyhole, circuit breaker switch, something you've dropped in the dark. The red LED can be used in the dark without waking a sleeper, and I have found that a useful feature. According to SAKwiki.com, Victorinox's late production used a 2 MM white LED with the same battery. I haven't seen one of those.

In 2008, Victorinox upgraded the MiniLight to a 3.5 MM white LED powered by a 1.55V silver oxide button battery (389E). It is more than twice as bright as the red LED, and it is an adequate LED flashlight for indoor use.

Some of Victorinox's 91 MM SAKs have this two battery LED module:

When powered by two 3V batteries, the 3.5 MM white LED shines 50% brighter and it is marginal but adequate for outdoor use finding your footing in the dark.

Wenger's Microlight Esquire and Microlight Pocket Tool Chest were 65 MM keychain SAKs with the 3.5 MM white LED and two 3V batteries. They are out of production, but you can still find them sold as new old stock. This is the Microlight Pocket Tool Chest:

You use the hook on the end of Wenger's old-style tweezers to pull out the battery tray. I would like to see Victorinox use this two-battery design in LED versions of the Executive and Ambassador.

Do it yourself, it will be more expensive, but you'll get a much better product at the end, that will last far longer. I'd reccomend a Skinth sheath, then add a LM Wave, a Fenix E05 flashlight, and a small fixed of your choice.

Leatherman now sells some MTs with LED Lenser flashlights, but I'm not very impressed by them.
