I was just reading about the worst thing ya did with a knife stories, when I came upon a reply invoving getting hurt playing Mumbley Peg.
Used to play it when I was a kid, that, Chicken and Stretch.
I remember Colonial,(I think, I'm not sure) used to put out a knife that listed the scoring on the handles, any of the older folk like me out there remember how to play and how to score.

My God, wasn't that a stupid, dangerous game?
But wasn't it fun?:D

Phil great link, my God don't let the ACLU, or the Child Services people see this link, they'll have us all locked up as irresponsible adults, for having tried any of that stuff.

Sure makes ya wonder how it is that most of us turned out ok, playing such "dangerous games", sure taught me respect for pointy/sharp objects.:)

T, some of those old games and general lack of protective equipment helped us cull the herd of the terminally stupid and the weak. Since we've become so protective of our young too many have survived into adulthood to become the feeble minded, slack-jawed young adults we have now. :D

Yeah it was lots of fun!

We used to play something similar with my old Italian stiletto lockback when I was around 9 years old. That other thread is great. I always thought we played mumblety peg but now know better.

What we called chicken involved flipping the knife in between the other person's feet until they got too close together and they chickened out. Me and my "girlfriend" were the only ones to never chicken out. We never had injuries except the odd scrape. Probably because we didn't throw hard and the knife was probably blunt as hell. We also played in the school playground and no-one batted an eyelid. If we played now I think my friends would throw full power and endanger me :)

Strangely we never thought of other games like stretch or better. Pity.

Kallisti.

You old boys sure were nucking futs.

I took a look at the game on the some web sight, man it seems you would have to be slightly crazy to play that. Some how I tend to shy away from sticking a knife on my head and flipping it!

At least I know what boys used to do in the "good old days" instead of telivsion, listening to cds or something.

Though I have to admitt to playing that game from Aliens.:D

Kallisti made me remember doing the chicken game thing around the age of 16 or so. Used the same type of cheap Italian stiletto lockback and made the unfortunate error of sticking it right through the top of my friends canvan shoe. All would have been well as the blade went between two toes, except that it went side ways and cut one toe. It shoe was full of blood although the cut wasn't all that bad. Never played that again, and no, I didn't give him a chance to take revenge. We did remain friends and are to this day.
