Munk, Arrange The H.I. Lawn Darts Game Quickly; Now They Want To Ban Lawn Darts...!

It's always children playing with them that causes problems. Grown men drinking beer is totally acceptable. ;) :footinmou
Seriously, I loved this game, and I was a kid when you could play it. It was not more dangerous than fireworks or knives or bb guns really. Exercise some basic safety rules, use common sense and accept responsibility for your actions. But then that is anathama today I guess.

My brother ran up behind somebody swinging a baseball bat and got hit. He lived but it really whacked him. Should we ban them?

Jeez, I feel so sorry for kids anymore. :(

And that article was from 1989... I'm always on the lookout for lawn darts at garage sales.

According too a program on NPR last week, 30-40,000 die in the U.S. every year from flu that we have vacine to prevent.

IIRC:

250,000+ die due to alcohol (vs. 8,000 for all "controlled substances")

350-400,000 die due to tobacco

We focus on odd risks given the slaughter due to other things.

Hey- did you forget medical malpractise? What's that up to- a 100,000 a year?

Drdan, thank you for this timely and informative link. It is clear we must ban lawns, not just lawn darts. Lawns, where allowed, should be roped off with a electric fence. Persons should be forced to walk on pavement at all times- with proper helmets and shin guards. The goal of eliminating accidents is timeless, but we will win. Someday, we'll all just stay in bed and not risk leaving the home....

Monk! How irresponsible, don't you know how many people fall down and get hurt every day! The answer is obvious. Put everybody in one of those Japanese tube motel rooms with a feeding tube and a catheter and don't let them out. It would be best if we kept them in a drugged coma, thay way they won't accidentaly pull the tubes loose.

Anyone who runs up behind me with a baseball bat is going to get whacked too...

.

Sounds like its time to retire some politicians and replace them with fresh young faces who like to repeal mindless laws.....

Remind me to pick up some extra bubble wrap on the way home.

Seriously, I can't begin to understand the man's grief at losing his daughter. I definitely agree that there should be a warning on the package - it's not exactly intuitive that a "toy" when used approximately correctly could pierce your skull. With BB guns and the like, the danger is a bit more intuitive, IMHO - well, maybe not these days. Anyway, kids can't be placed in a risk free world. Some level of danger is good - keeps the senses sharp and lets them start evaluating risks. The longer we shelter them, the bigger and more dangerous mistakes they are likely to make.

YMMV
