Munk called (just after I took my first bite of lunch) and talked for maybe 20 minutes. He's okay but has busted his budget for computers. I asked if he minded my putting up this post and he's man enough to okay it so here it is.

If anybody has an old working computer (any model, any speed, almost worthless, if you'll ship it to Munk contact me and I'll pay the freight. Anything that works and has a dialup modem.

Munk is missing the forum pretty badly but can't afford a computer at this time. I'd send him this one when I get my new one (if I can find one that works!) but that may be awhile.

Any help much appreciated by me, Munk, and his forum pals.

I only have this laptop - I will chat to the technicians at work and see if I can organise an old laptop !!

I'll even help with the shipping costs !!

I know what it's like to miss the forum and Munk needs our help !!

No spare hardware at the moment, but if you want help with the shipping, or want to take up a collection, I'm sure there would be a few takers. Be good to have him back.

ditto:)

Unless the thing burned down, or munk's succumbed to the (no doubt stong) temptation to use it for target practice, mightn't it be worth-while to consider shipping the sick thing to somebody who understands PC innards? Which ain't me by the way--sorry.

If I recall correctly, a virus was said to be the culprit. A low level drive format, or at worst, a replacement disc-drive followed an instalation of the operating system seems to be all that it would needed.

But, what do I know?

I'm not sure myself either - but sometimes dying computers will act like they've a virus, but it's actually hardware starting to go bad. It still may be worth trying to salvage even if so.

One should be able to put a basic system together these days for a good price. Hopefully someone can work something out for munk.

I would be willing to do that if he's interested.

Pardon Me,

Where does Munk call home?

Geographically speaking that is.

If you/he wants to send the computer to me, I'll work on it for him. I'd even donate some of my spare computer parts to help him out.

Let me know, and I can send you my new address.

Munk resides in Montana. I wish I were in circumstances where I could help as well, but being on a fixed income leaves only the plastic and that has to be paid for sometime.:(
Retirement is wonderful, the fixed income ain't!:grumpy:

I got rid of my last comp for a song. Actually it was for only a note or two. All I got left are a few cables. I have an old 4 port hub if he needs it.

I may have access to something...I'll check tomorrow. I lent an old (PII 300Mhz - adequate for web surfing) PC to a buddy of mine. I'll give him a holler and ask him to drop it off so I can QC it.

Munk just needs the CPU, right? I've got a monitor, keyboard, etc, too, if necessary. Dunno how much shipping Hawaii -> Montana will be, but I reckon I can probably swing it.

I'll post here again as soon as I find out whether the old beast is still breathin'.
