I saw a "Murali BGRS" pic posted by C.S. Graves on this thread - can someone give me a lead on who the maker/importer was ...Himalayan? C.S. doesn't have any email or message links...

That's one of the Kuk's that's caught my eye...

Thanks!

The BGRS is a baby Ganga Ram (mistaken for a 16" Bonecutter on a DOTD), an Murali is one of the relatively new kamis, who fashioned the one I own. Will was originally referring to a post I put in the HI Picture thread.

Mine's sharp except for the two inches or so nearest the tip. I suspect this results in a bit of dullness on the sweet spot, which might account for it having a bit less bite than some khuks of this size range I've tried (my 15" AK for example). Come the spring, I may have to have another go at sharpening it and take 'er out for some comparative chop-testing.

Edit: Karda beat me to citing the original pic and post. No surprise there!

Wasn't there an old Murali? Did he come back, or is this a new kami with the same name, like young Sher?

What is the usual length on a ganga ram in nepal? Are they called baby because they are shorter than usual, like the 15 incher I got?

IIRC, the Ganga Rams were originally 18" on up and anything 15" or less is considered a BGRS. I may stand to be corrected by those more in the know.

I seem to recall the "standard" Ganga Ram Special being in the range of 22".

While the tip-heavy design was appealing from a chopping standpoint, the mass of such a blade would likely have been too much for me! I'd heard Hollowdweller say good things about the smaller specimens though, so jumped on this "baby"... even though I originally thought it to be a Bonecutter. :D

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule about it... given that the original GRS's were around 22", I'd guess that the under 20" specimens could be called BGRS fair enough...
