Here is the Murali special made and marked (trisul) by Murali Dhar. The khukuri is 26 inches long, 2 inches wide and just a bit shy of 1/2 inch thick. It weighs 3 pounds. The fit and finish are very good. Hardness is excellent. Of interest to me is the pommel which looks very much like a Sherpa style khukuri but is not solid brass like Kancha Kami used to make them. But if somebody had asked me where the kami who made this khukuri lived I'd have guessed the Solu Khumbu. Since we know where he lives I don't have to guess. I am wondering if this guy can make a Sherpa style like Kancha used to make. I'll find out.

More interesting stuff is the super super frog with the handle retainer. I think the sarkis got this idea from the scabbards we sent over.

And, look at the tooling the sarkis did on the scabbard. I am convinced they got nervous when they saw the scabbards from the US along with my note.

There is no blem about this rig. It is pretty much perfect but we want to offer it as a special deal to somebody who is willing to write an honest review of khukuri and scabbard -- frog, too, if you want but I don't like this strap around the handle for a khukuri and am going to discourage future attempts at it.

So, testers and writers, who wants this khukuri for $175 delivered to your door.

Call or email if interested.

Cruel Fate! I'm the first to see this post and my wallet is light as a feather!

What a beautiful khukuri! I love the handle. It won't last long! I'm very jealous of whoever gets this one. My HIKV is going to leave me bedridden if this is what will continue to appear in this shipment. Maybe I can go sell a few pints of blood.

I know how you feel OMRie. That looks fantastic, but unfortunately I too am skint.

Uncle Bill, is Murali Dhar a new guy at HI ?

JD

Hmmm, Uncle Bill, I wouldn't mind getting a Sherpa Style khukuri similar to this one , but with silver Bolster, buttcap and scabbard cap. If the word from Murali Dhar is favourable, put me down for one, about 18 to 20 inches long.

Specs: Sherpa Style Khukuri
18 -20 inches long
Silver bolster, buttcap and scabbard cap
Nepali oak(saatisaal) or similar well seasoned wood to above pix for handle, not too much carving on handle.
Tooled leather scabbard similar to above
HI SuperFrog as shown in pix, but without retainer strap.

No rush on this if it is a go; I expect Murali Dhar to do his best on this.

If he can, you'll be #2 on the list, Harry. Remember that Uncle Bill doesn't have one himself, so guess who gets Sherpa one?

No more for him lads, it's time to put him on the wagon.

The Murali special is on it's way to Nick tomorrow.

Murali Dhar is the one who came with two of his brothers or pals a couple of months back. The three of them worked together for a couple of weeks and Murali stayed. The other two took off for whatever reason.

Murali comes from a mountain village where there is a fair population of Sherpas. I guess he has seen that Sherpa style khukuri made enough times he can duplicate it. I want to see if he can do it like Kancha used to do the job.

Let's see what he can do in brass, Harry, and if it is okay we can move him up to the silver.

Can I get Sherpa #3 then? 18" long, and just like old Kancha made it, with horn and brass. Only thing different is I want a magic stone finish, not the old village finish?

I know the special orders are a headache, Uncle Bill, but I'd guess you have more special orders alone in the fire now than you used to have of regular orders just a year and a half ago. Am I close?

Rusty, you are right. Gelbu and the shop are up to their ears in special orders. Too many, it seems, since every now and then an order just falls thru the cracks. I am sold out of several regular models due to special orders. But it keeps the guys from getting bored!!!!!!

Uncle Bill, I have to agree I don't like the strap on the scabbard either. But that is a great looking knife and the scabbard is awesome.

To paraphrase what Abraham Lincoln said about General Grant, "Give the other sarkis what those guys have been drinking!"

Oh jeez! I love everything about this knife except the length. I mean just look at it! It's beautiful! It's what I was looking for without knowing I was looking for it. To bad it wasn't closer to 16" or 18"..........

I think the knife is too big for general consumption. Berk, you're right about the drinks for the sarkis. I am trying to find out if this is a new guy or an old timer inspired by the scabbards we shipped over.
