Hello. I wanted to share some thoughts and observations on a new Murray Carter forged FS1 knife I recently purchased.
First, I've been a big fan of Mr. Carter for a number of years now. I have 3 other knives from him (1 "Whitecrane" and 2 neck knives). All three of these are forged Hitachi White Steel #1 core laminated with stainless steel.
This FS1 knife is forged Hitachi Blue Super Steel core laminated with 1035 high tensile spring steel.
The FS1 is very well done with regard to form, fit, and finish (as have been the other 3 knives I have of his).
I carry and use his knives and they are very good and comfortable in hand. Also, they are very good cutters, take a fine edge, hold it well, and are very easy to keep very sharp.
Something I do with new knives I intend to carry/use is to use them to whittle some seasoned Osage Orange wood that I've had for quite a while, just to do an initial edge stability and retention check. Like the other Carter knives, the FS1 performed very well. Of course, continued carry and use will provide a better understanding of the knife and its qualities/performance.
***I don't have any relationship with Mr. Carter/Carter Cutlery, other than as a knife purchaser, user of his knives, and as someone who appreciates his knowledge, experience, skills, and spirit.
If anyone is interested in hand-made, forged knives made with fine materials and mastersmith skills resulting in an outstanding knife, I'd recommend they research Mr. Carter, his knife making background, and his knives.
Best regards and God bless.
