I've recently discovered Murray Carter Knives and oh man am I hooked! I'm surprised that there's not much information or discussion on them out there, except my Murray himself. The quality and attention to detail is fantastic. Every part of the knife is polished and buffed. All of these are white steel, the grain structure is very fine and they take a really keen edge on my water stones, it's relatively easy for me to put a great edge on these for some reason. Murray seems like a really humble guy and he even personally responded to some of my questions via email, he even sent me a complimentary signed copy of his book when I mentioned I had recently bought several of his knives! Anyway just wanted to share my newest addiction to a group I knew would appreciate my enthusiasm, my family and coworkers don't get it. ;)

Very nice blades you have there! Have been a long time admirer of Murray Carter's work. I believe it is pretty much widely accepted that his work is phenomenal (it really speaks for itself), but there isn't a whole lot of talk here about it. Doesn't mean the love doesn't exist. One of his blades is definitely been on my want list for some time now and I plan on having one someday ;)

I hope he doesn't accidentally leave that spoon in the kitchen, somebody will loose a tongue!

Yes, I pretty much drool over his knives. It's always a bitter sweet moment when one of his news letters arrive. It's really hard to resist (and I haven't always) those latest offerings. Murray is a great teacher also. I had the good fortune to attend one of his five day classes a few years ago - it was a great experience and we learned quite a bit.

Beautiful knives you have there. I always like the jigged bone handles. Really like the profile on that orange handled (bone ?) knife. The Kajiki's are pretty darn nice also. Thanks for sharing. What's next on your list? Maybe a White Crane model?

That sweet G10 freestyle he's got for sale right now keeps calling my name. Yes, orange one( it actually more brown in person) is camel bone.

Yes, that freestyle looks very nice. I can spend quite bit of time looking over Murray's site, trying to make some of those knives materialize at my house.

I wonder what the background is on the G3 prototype? It looks pretty clean. I'm liking the carbon fiber handled White Crane a lot also. The bone material Murry uses does make for some nice handles. Mike

Welcome to the amazing world of Murray's knives. The man can really make a knife that cuts, I have a Nakiri from his entry level kitchen knife line that is incredibly sharp and well made.

I have used a Murry Carter neck knife on many hunts. I mainly have used it for skinning black bears, maybe four or five. It is a razor blade and you have to be careful not to cut the hide. It is not a hard use knife but it does skin like a scalpel.

They are definitely very sharp and great slicers, the edges are very thin, but Murray does have a video where he's batoning a stump with one. I'm curious how tough they are since there are no hard use videos that I can find.

Very nice! And it's a very difficult problem to shake - if you even want to. Mike

Just to clarify, those are Hitachi White Steel #1; there is no 'Super White'. You may be confusing that term with Hitachi Super Blue, which Murray had previously used in his knives.

On Murray's knives he'll designate a 'S' for Super Blue and either a 'W' or no marking on blades with a core of Hitachi White Steel #1.

You are absolutely right, my bad.

Hey Mike, I noticed that G3 prototype is out of stock now......was that you? LOL. That dirty Carter Cutlery newsletter this morning had a discount code, the Freestyle is gone now too......unfortunately, yes it was me!

Congratulations on the Freestyle. That is great! Nice looking knife. Now, the anxiety of the wait. No, the G3 was not me. I'm trying very hard not to buy anything this month. I've gone a bit out of control so far this year. Not sure if I'll make it though. Congratulations again. Mike

I inherited some king stones. I am 31 and was raised by analogs. No better way to sharpen knives then by hand with stones. I have asked for the 6000$ 5day forging course but will settle on his DVD set and a 6000grit to join my 800 and 1200. He embodies the ways of tradition something lost with jigs and belts.

My knife 3/16 thick survival knife is now shaving sharp after watching the master. Cant wait for the full DVD.

I downloaded his sharpening videos, I bought the advanced one first and then the fundamentals. I really like the fundamentals video, lots of good instruction and close up shots.
