I found a katana blade in stuff I was moving. It has an inscription on both sides of the blade. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Will try to get a translation for you, but sadly, the blade is not of good quality.

Best Regards,

Do you have a picture of the saya or handle? We manufacture Musashi katanas, but judging from the blade picture it looks a little like a Chinese jian. The inscription looks like an old Chinese poem, but normally we don't have Chinese words etched on our Japanese katanas. It may be an older sword that is no longer in production or a copy of one of our swords using the Musashi logo. Our current line can be found on www.musashicollection.com. If you have any other pictures of the sword I may be able to check with some of our previous swordsmiths to provide more details about the blade itself.

BTW, the 2nd picture looks like the date that the sword was made.

Thank you,

Dan

We actually was able to translate the inscription for you. Here is what it says:

1st Photo: Literal translation: End of 3rd year of the Kannin Era, August lucky day. which basically means that it was "Made on a Lucky August day in 1019". Japan's Kannin Era was from 1017 to 1021. So the 3rd year of the Kannin Era would make it 1019.

2nd Photo: Literal translation: Made by Bizen Kuni-jū Osafune Go ́emon.

Apparently, this is to make you believe that the particular sword you have on hand was forged by the swordsmith Bizen no Kuni-jū Osafune Go ́emon on a glorious August day in 1019.

Unfortunately, Musashi Swords has NEVER did anything like this to any of our swords. I hate to tell you that the sword you have is a knockoff...

Hope this helps! We are still curious to see the rest of the sword, if you don't mind, would you please post some more pictures of this sword?

Thank you.

I would love to but I only found the blade while moving stuff. I don't even remember where it came from. Thanks for the help! I need to get a few good blades and hoped it was something worth keeping.
