This model is a copy of an old khukuri on display at the National Museum. Kumar has taken some liberties so that it will work for westerners. It's good work by Kumar and village sarki. No karda or chakma per original.

Overall length--20.5"
Wight--42 oz.
Spine thickness 3/8"
White metal handle

Great buy at $250.00

Email to order.

Beutiful! Ah, money and the lack thereof.

Yangdu, just out of curiosity, what 'liberties' did Kumar take?

I'd guess the handle is larger for the western hand.

That's it - the handle is longer to accommodate bigger hands and different techniques. Here's a museum model compared to a traditional kora grip:

. Otherwise the MM is a very traditional kukri, much more of a weapon than a chopper. The spine on mine is 8mm at the bolster, with a fair amount of distal taper. Just the ticket to repel boarders, Arrr:D .

Oh man, never thought I would actually see one of these. Almost identical to the one shown on the Past Blade Runs page of the HI site:

http://www.himalayan-imports.com/one-time-knives.html

It's cool how we're seeing these older models brought back one by one.

The difference seems to be that this one has a full length Sword of Shiva, and in fact looks to me pretty much like a standard Junge-style blade mated to the metal handle, while the blade on the HI site is a bit slimmer and does not have the full length SOS. The handle on the new one seems to be more rounded as well and perhaps not angled down as much. The bigger blade here would also explain the extra 10 oz. over the old model.

If I could only scrape up the dinero I would love to snag this guy, but my selfish family insists on eating every single day!;)

Oh, oh. <sigh>

Ditto Norm's thoughts...

It's like seeing a ghost, or a white buffalo.

Lovvvvvvvely.

Although I have an empty kettle,
I really like that metal...
If I only had the cash...

To afford it, I'd have to live on beans and hash.

Thanks for the answer to my question. You guys never fail to come through.

My oldest son just said it was "Awesome". Thicker blade than the Museum peice, stronger.

Does anyone have a guess as to what material the white metal handle is made of? (besides...white metal)
