I know a lot of folks have gotten sick of my mushy posts over the years, but it has been a while. This one is pretty sappy, but it again illustrates some of the special things that constantly go on in our world of knives.

The new issue of Blade hit my mailbox yesterday. This has been a good year for me getting Blade on time. The guy at the P.O. who used to dog-ear mine must have been promoted.;) It is the show issue so it is a big ol’ fat thing in comparison to it’s usual size. Lots of good stuff in there.

I usually go to the 2 page spread toward the back, gawk a little read Ed's, Dexter's or Darby’s work then start reading the puppy from the beginning ads and all and the only ads I ever pay attention to are about knives. (Terry Tate is kinda cool too :D.)

After a while I got to an article on a set of knives that a buddy of mine has helped bring together and the efforts of all those makers and my neighbor Steve just served to emphasize why this hobby is so special to me.

I don’t mean to lessen the impact any of the good things I have seen and heard people do for each other over the years by not mentioning them in this post, but I do want to thank Pat Crawford, Allen Elishewitz, Gil Hibben, Bob Dozier, Bob Terzuola, Mel Pardue, Jerry Fisk and Steve Freund (a.k.a Calvin Cooledge, Burl Ivory, Chamois Davis, Jr. or Hayword N. Edgewise).

Each of you represent our passion well each day and the knives for the New York Firefighters Burn Unit Auction add icing to the cake. You can rest well in knowing that my very good friend Steve will make sure beyond any doubt that the results of your efforts will be something you can be proud of.

To the rest of you who have been a part of things like this over the years, it is not the knives that get me as excited as a kid waiting for Christmas or their birthday in these long few days before Blade. It is the privilege and honor to be able to associate with you and your ilk. :).

I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones at Blade in a couple of weeks. If there is anything I can help any one with in Atlanta drop me a line or keep in mind I am the only Kalanzis in the book. (don't look me up by Bastid - there are some real wackos in Atlanta :)). I live about 20 min. away and will be there from Thursday afternoon on. (May skip Sunday only if Dad does not make it down for the show.)

Hey, Gus,
That isn't mushy, that is just a great sense of pride. Especially in being proud of your friends. I get that way to at times and I never thought of it as being "mushy"
See you in Atlanta.

Great thoughts, Gus. I'm certain we're *all* wit'cha on the tribute knives and auction contributors.

You guys have a good time down there. Thanks for laying it down as it is.

Likewise, it is an honour and privilege to know you through Bladeforums. One day (if it comes at all) if I happen to be in Atlanta, I may just give you a call.

Nothing mushy about what you have written. When it comes from the heart, it's always great.

:)

Yes it is a bit "mushy" but it comes from one of the greatest guys that have ever graced these pages. That makes it OK!
Love ya buddy.

Gus,
Not mushy, just true feelings expressed that represent what most of us feel - its the special friends that make the knife fancy what it is! I missed Blade last year - show and knives were missed to some extent but it was not getting together with all the friends I have made that was missed most - can't wait, its only two weeks now. Will be at 11-P helping Darrel out as before. Will be there Thurs. evening and early Friday so maybe will get chance to talk? Will have a special knife from Don Fogg he is bringing me to show you - I have no idea what it is even, just know its not a Shiv( have one of those already). See you there and want to see any new daggers you have!

Gonna miss you this year, gus!

Bill, it will be fantastic to see you. A bunch of us missed ya last year. Can't wait to see what Don, Darrel and for that matter every one else has cooked up.

Ah.. 1 week from tomorrow at 11:30 A.M. I'll be leaving work and heading over be with friends and see a few knives. I'll see you and DDR Thursday. (I have trained work and all the computers to not even talk to me after 11:15 :D).
