Read about this recently. I actually may go to it.

Welcome

The West Virginia Mushroom Club is an organization that was founded to promote fellowship and communication among people who are interested in mushrooms and fungi. No matter what level of interest you may have - from curious observer to expert - you are welcome to particpate in Club activities.

Mid-Summer Mushroom Foray
Saturday, JULY 23, 2011 at Blackwater Falls State Park and
Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area

The WV Mushroom Club is proud to announce that our Mid-Summer Foray will feature Gary Lincoff, author of the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms and The Complete Mushroom Hunter, a beginner's guide that you can buy and have autographed at our foray. Blackwater Falls State Park is located just north of Canaan Valley Resort, between Davis and Thomas.

Meet us at the Milton Hall Conference Center in the Blackwater Falls State Park Lodge on Saturday at 9am for registration followed by an introduction to mushroom collecting and guided walks along gentle terrain where we will collect wild mushrooms and fungi. We'll return at 1pm for lunch consisting of traditional picnic fare and whatever dishes you might want to bring along to share with us. After lunch, Gary will teach us about polypore mushrooms and how they were used in different cultures througout history. We will then learn about the mushrooms collected that day and learn to identify most common deadly and edible mushrooms found in our area.

On Sunday, we'll meet at 9am in the Milton Hall Conference Center and carpool to Dolly Sods to enjoy the birds, bogs, berries, and wild mushrooms native to that area. We'll return to the lodge around 4pm. If mushrooms are collected along the way, we'll review those with Gary before we head for home that day.

The cost is $30 for Saturday (includes lunch) and $40 for both Saturday and Sunday. Mail your check to West Virginia Mushroom Club, HC-68, Box-128, Bowden, WV 26254 before July 1st and save $5 for each day you attend. To reserve a room at the lodge, a cabin or a campsite, call 304 259-5215 and mention the WVMC.

For further details, please email Shelly Conrad at geezerex@aol.com or Nancy Ward at naward57@gmail.com

To make this the best foray ever, we need your help! Please email if you can volunteer to help in any way, such as registration, leading forays, sales table, sorting and labeling mushrooms, food preparation, setting up luncheon buffet and clean-up afterwards. To volunteer, please emal Martha Hopper at Marthachopper@gmail.com

Somebody does these in my area, I need to look into it myself. Now that we have finally had some rain, after weeks without much to speak of, there may actually be some fungi pop up. I haven't seen any on the last couple of outings.
