Actually these shots are part of a larger project that is inspired by things that were only hinted at and alluded to in the trilogy, but the this title seems to feel okay for these particular shots :)

Thats pretty cool Brian. I love thinking of paths in the woods. Especially when there seems to be well worn ones. Its neato to think of how organic the path is.

Fried or smoked - those Chicken of the Woods - are excellent eating. We sau·té them in butter too but the best are fried. Smoked is a still kind of an unpredictable process. They go from delicious to erasers in pretty short order. I imagine trail prep and eating adds its own excellence.

Nice pics too!

nice. did you take both staffs with you on this hike?

Two different hikes, same day. I usually take multiples of everything I have gathered yet with me when I go out, to check for color, contrast, complement, and balance in various shots for the overall project. The scenery shots are just that to set the mood, but all of the shots with items in them are serving as test shots for a calendar I am working on that I hope to have done in time for the 20 2020 calendar. I also do multiples of various shots with knives by different makers, but only post the ones with Fiddleback knives in them here. Bilbo had a collection of walking sticks, and so do I :)

Thanks man, me too. Every autumn I find one shot of a pathway I like enough to make my desk top.

Thanks Ray! I've done them fried and sauteed and I love both, but I get them more tender when sauteed. And with all the dental work I am going through right now in the process of getting out all of the teeth (they were too damaged in my youth to save) so I can do dentures, the tenderer the better :)

Very cool, Brian! And that Osage looks better every time I see it.

Thanks man! and yeah I love the way this esquire is aging.

Brian, do you think chicken of the woods is edible if it's on a suburban tree? There's a lot of it too:

Unless it's in the dog leg reach zone or in an area where they spray for insects, I'd say it is a prize waiting to be harvested. Most of the ones we eat comes off trees by the side of the road rather than from the deep woods.

That one looks like a beaut!

Hey - but I ain't Brian  My 2¢ anyway.

:D Ray

Thanks Ray--It's pretty high up, I'd have to reach to get it. There's that big one, and 3 or 4 groups of similar sized ones. The only thing I'm unsure about is the pesticides in the neighborhood.

Don't wait too long to harvest - it is on the verge of going past perfect. Leave some behind too, that will encourage next years crop. You can wash it, of course, before preparing. If the municipality doesn't have a spray program you are likely pretty safe. Enjoy.

I think they should be fine as long as up high like that. fungi are often one of the first signs the tree is dying anyway. But they will also grow on the bark of dying trees and any pesticides and herbicides that might be present should be on the other side of the bark anyway.

Thanks Brian--I'll see if they are still there tomorrow. There were a few people eyeing them. --Anthony
