I like southern style rock the most like ZZ-Top, CCR, Alman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eagles, Doobie Brothers.

I don't like rap or anything similar, really heavy (dying rabid grizzly bear screaming into a microphone) stuff, whiny music.

Any suggestions for me?

As I get a little longer in the tooth, I find myself listening to Elwood's House of Blues Radio show on Sunday nights. It is funny because I usually just listen to talk radio now. I do not really enjoy the 80's metal bands from my younger days, nor the grunge from the 90s. I do not discount their appeal or greatness, just not my taste anymore. I would try some Stevie Ray Vaughn, as a segway into blues.

Check out Stevie Ray Vaughn. Also, believe it or not, Frank Sinatra. Check out his "nothing but the best" album. Led Zeppelin (early stuff). The list goes on...

You should check out Rabid Grizzly Bear's "Death Scream." It's right up your alley. Or Stevie Ray Vaughn or CCR, you know, whatever.

I'll second Drive by Truckers although what I've listened to of there music doesn't quite have the same sound as the great Southern Rock bands.I don't see the Marshall Tucker band on your list or Dickie Betts either,he played with the Allmans and wrote a few of their songs,Great Southern was a band that he played with from time to time.Derek Trucks Band is another one,Dereks uncle Butch played with the Allmans and Derek has played with them on a few tours when they get back together. You could also check out Warren Haynes or Govt Mule and I like a lot of Shooter Jennings stuff.

Rory Gallagher...He was what Clapton should have been in the 70's
The Song "Walk on Hot Coals" live from the BBC Old Grey Whistle Test Show is Phenominal:thumbup: You can find it on youtube, etc.
or
THE FIRST 4 SABBATH ALBUMS:thumbup::thumbup:
Maybe Check out Atomic Rooster or Savoy Brown or The Groundhogs:thumbup:

This would be very bad for me. the second it did something I didn't like it'd be a flying radio.

If you could throw it hard enough to get it into orbit you'd have a satellite radio.

You're talking mostly blues-rock. You might like some of Johnny Winter's work.

WHAT!?!! No mention of Molly Hatchet or .38 Special yet????

There's also the old-school Southern Rock groups like The Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, and The Rossington-Collins Band. Another one of my favorites is Little Feat. Still old school are Blackfoot, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Georgia Satellites, Dicky Betts Band, Charlie Daniels, Wet Willie, Johnny Van Zandt, and since SRV is already in the mix, his brother Jimmy didn't do to badly in the genre either so give a listen to The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Texas blues rockers like SRV's backing band, Double Trouble, reformed as The ArcAngels and then Storeyville. Others like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Chris Duarte, and Les Dudek (studio lead and acoustic backing with the Allman Brothers on Brothers and Sisters ) continued in the style of Stevie Ray. (Although Dudek's Deeper Shades of Blue sounds more like some of Gary Moore's blues work)

Others like Shawn Mullins, Robert Earl Keene, or Steve Earle kind of blur the lines between Southern Rock, Country, and Folk music.

Some consider groups like REM, The B-52s, Black Crows and Blind Melon Southern Rock "stylists" as well.

And thanks for mentioning the boys from my Berkeley "hood" - CCR - as Southern Rockers!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to check some of them out when I get a chance.

Give it a look, has a lot of different stuff on it, Has a channel called Roadhouse you mite like, you can get in anywhere, you did ask for something different, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws are Cool, But...........

Try 3 Doors Down. They are a Georgia based band. I would consider them to be a contemporary southern rock band.

The Zac Brown Band borders on some stuff that is a lot like old Charlie Daniels music. They have a group of bands that tour with them under a "Southern" banner and they are all pretty good. It brings me back to my high school days of Skynard, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Etc...
