WHAT!?!! No mention of Molly Hatchet or .38 Special yet????
There's also the old-school Southern Rock groups like The Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, and The Rossington-Collins Band. Another one of my favorites is Little Feat. Still old school are Blackfoot, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Georgia Satellites, Dicky Betts Band, Charlie Daniels, Wet Willie, Johnny Van Zandt, and since SRV is already in the mix, his brother Jimmy didn't do to badly in the genre either so give a listen to The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Texas blues rockers like SRV's backing band, Double Trouble, reformed as The ArcAngels and then Storeyville. Others like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Chris Duarte, and Les Dudek (studio lead and acoustic backing with the Allman Brothers on
Brothers and Sisters ) continued in the style of Stevie Ray. (Although Dudek's
Deeper Shades of Blue sounds more like some of Gary Moore's blues work)
Others like Shawn Mullins, Robert Earl Keene, or Steve Earle kind of blur the lines between Southern Rock, Country, and Folk music.
Some consider groups like REM, The B-52s, Black Crows and Blind Melon Southern Rock "stylists" as well.
And thanks for mentioning the boys from my Berkeley "hood" - CCR - as Southern Rockers!
