I picked up the musk ox horn today that I had sent off to WSSI for treating.I like it.It seems to be a little harder and it takes a good polish.
Some of my ivory hunters have permits for musk ox this spring and they are going to save the horns for me.The problem is no one wants to shoot the bulls that have the the good horn as the meat is quite tough.
Does any one know if horn needs to be dryed? If so how long does it take?

Chuck did you get my check?

Does stabilizing make it translucent? I want to keep the white swirls if possible. does it darken them?

Bruce,I got your check, thanks. The treatment did seem to make it more traslucent. It seems makes the patterns stand out more.

Chuck,

Off the subject but -- I am finishing a knife that uses some of your mammoth bone. I'll be sure to send you pics or send you a link to the pics. About a week maybe from now, I hope. Lots going on right now and can't be sure. I may try my hand at the ivory on the next knike or two.

I'll be back to you later for more ivory and such.
