Muskrat Man banned for spamming?

To the mods:

I don't purport to know anything about the specifics of why Muskrat Man was banned for spamming, but I was very surprised to see that he walked the plank in July. In my experience, he's a great knife embellisher, maker, and a very worthwhile contributor to the forums.

If there is any chance that his bannable infraction was due to a misunderstanding, or if there are mitigating circumstances, I for one would respectfully request that he be re-admitted to BFC forums.

Actually he wasn't banned for spamming.

He was cautioned not to post commercially driven threads but was not assessed any points for so doing. I let it go (for the second time) with a simple email explaining his options. Others might not have been so lenient.

However, once I received the second rude email in return from MM, I did assess him the points for "sassing the mods".

The system did the rest as it is (apparently) geared to ban a member after a certain number of points have been accrued.

Lest anyone think I have an axe to grind, I've actually been supportive in posts and a paying customer of the young man. But, like many of his age, he is yet to learn that the world doesn't revolve around him and that the rules do indeed apply to him as they apply to others. (We all agreed to abide by certain terms of service when we signed up on the site.)

I'm old enough to be MM's father. I'm guessing he was taught to treat his elders with respect. (If not, shame on him and shame on his parents.) The fact that he decided (for the second time) to reply disrpectfully both to me and in reference to this site sealed the deal. End of story.

I hold no grudge. Life is too short. If he decides at some point that he will accept responsibility for past and future behavior I have no issue with his privileges being reinstated.

That being said, I've read the drivel being posted on another website in regard to this matter and I'm somewhat taken aback by not only the lack of veracity on the part of MM, but the readiness of several folks there (who are also members here) to not only accept his unilateral account as gospel, but to make uncalled for disparaging remarks. C'est la vie.

Enough said.
 
I put "spammer" after his name in the Plank Log because it seemed clear from his response to his second warning that he didn't intend to stop spamming us. I understand some people think he has some redeeming virtues but there's no point in even talking about reinstatement unless he's willing to change his mind about that. I think an apology would also be in order.
 
Okay, as long as it was a well considered decision, and it sounds like it was, I have no beef. I wasn't aware of the discussion on another board, and didn't have any details at all. I just ran across his name in the "Walking the plank in July" thread.

I like the young man, but as is always the case Blues weighed the decision and knowing him, it was not easy, but he did the right thing.

This post is being made in regard to the harassing e-mails you have sent to my son, Muskrat Man, and the trash you are talking about him over this forum. I have been forwarded several e-mails that you have written concerning my 16 year old son and now I am going to address them.

The latest one you posted about him is way out of line and now it’s time to draw the line. First of all, I read the e-mail sent from my son and see nothing wrong with it. Secondly, you’re a liar. In your last post you stated that you “Had no axe to grind”, we both know that is a lie and I have your e-mails to prove it. E-mails that I will gladly forward to anyone who would like to read them.

You state that you assessed points to my son for “sassing the Mods”. I don’t believe you’re a “moderator”; a dictator would be a better description. You go on to say that you’re old enough to be MM’s father? Then why don’t you act your age and quit bad mouthing and harassing a 16 year old kid.

You’re a retired law enforcement officer, is that correct? Did you make a career of hassling kids? You go on further to say and I quote, “I’m guessing MM was taught to treat his elders with respect. (If not, shame on him and his parents.)” Let me tell you something Mister. My son is very respectful and a hard working young man. He has been taught to respect not only his elders but young and old alike unless given a reason to do otherwise. I have never met you sir but from what I’ve read I have absolutely no respect for you. By insinuating that my son shows no respect to others (namely you) is not only disrespectful to my son but to his parents as well.

I find it very strange that out of the 200 or so customers my son has had in his young career that you have been the only one to complain. Your complaints aren’t all justified either. He re-handled your knives with the materials you requested and approved of. I am a retired bladesmith and personally inspect each of his projects when completed as I expect him to set his standards high and take pride in the work he so loves to do and I saw no problem at all with your knives when they were completed. So don’t lie to the readers of this forum and tell them you have “no axe to grind”. Instead of handling the matter in a mature professional manner, you got back at a 16 year old in a cowardly manner by banning him from this forum.

You go on to say that you’ve read the “drivel” posted about this matter on another forum? Well sometimes the truth hurts, doesn’t it? I don’t want to see anymore trash written about my son. I’m not a 16 year old kid and if you have anymore derogatory remarks to make have the balls to meet me face to face and we’ll resolve the matter.

So we are supposed to ignore those who take advantage of this site while we have others who follow our rules here.

Give me a break. Your son was banned for taking advantage of this site and selling here on the "dimes" of people who actually support this place and the owner who comes out of pocket each month.

That is wrong in anyones book and it is a shame his parents have not taught him right from wrong.
 
If you want to advertise on Bladeforums you have to get the appropriate membership and post in the appropriate section. That was explained to Muskrat Man, twice, but he chose not to follow the rules. (He was also rude about it.)

You can let him get away with violating the rules of your household if you like, but here at Bladeforums the same rules apply to everyone, even your son.

It's easy for slimy little cocksuckers like you to hide behind a mouse and a computer screen and talk shit about people. I'f any of you cowardly little sons-of-bitches have anything to say about this matter then contact me personally. If you'd like to meet with me in person somewhere, I'd be more than happy to present you with the opportunity to do so. Now you have a reason to ban me too, so fuck you all.

To explain my point of view in this pile of garbage. I am friends with Blues. We talk on the phone occasionally and enjoy each others company and advise.

In the past I have not heard anything but praise from him regarding MM both here at B.F.C. and over the phone.

while your son does great work there are limits to what can be said to the mods here.
i have not read your son's comments but yours are a tad over the wall here and make you look mostly the one at falt...
i am a paying gold member so i could post on the buck knives for sale thread..
this forum is not a cheaply run forum and it is expensive to maintain servers for us to enjoy this...
if MM was selling and was told not to ... he should have lay-ed low and not responded in a manner as you did above no mater what was sent in a email...
it is a plain rule that if you sass a mod walk the plank...
i for one respect all the mods even the ones that some times i don't agree with ...
many have gotten warnings and it is a case of lay low and behave ...
even points will disappear with time...
but nothing is an excuse to rant like above ...
i was once told that to use profanity was the vain attempt of a weak mind to express it's self...
your words need to be as sharp as your knife
for as you can not cut with a dull sword ...
you can not make a point with blunt & dull witted words...

i have never read any of MM's posts or anything...and i was on your side when you did your first post which you wrote in a respectful manner.

but after seeing this, it makes me realize how fucked up you are.
 
PSSSTT GUYS...they were both banned several months ago and are therefore unable to read your comments...
