Has anyone figured out the purpose of the same blade on both sides of the knife? It's the only thing that's keeping me from buying one. Maybe if one of them breaks?

I think the reasoning was simply if one blade got dull out in the field there was another, ready to go.

NO good reason from me other than been carrying one for 25yrs, exclusivey, never failed me done every thing I asked her and more!! model 77OT That'll be a beloved Old timer built by SCHRADE.

I think they were originally used by Muskrat hunters, and it came in really handy while skinning or dressing their game to have another blade when the one in use got dull.

They are eye popppers if you bust one out full mast when you are out for a steak dinner.

IIRC, somewhere on the forums here, long ago, somebody said it was to have a spare sharp blade when one dulled.

thx - cpr

That's exactly the reason for the two identical blades on the muskrat.

Lest we forget noted fur trapper and writer, S. Stanley Hawbaker and his design of the Hawbaker Muskrat. A version with a clip blade and a sheepfoot or a wharncliffe.

Some good looking knives there Thomason.
The Hawbaker Muskrat pattern was new to me, thanks for sharing.
I'd probably prefer this over a regular muskrat.

Why oh why did I open this thread?
Why?
Why?
Oh, why?

Off shopping.....

Just got a Queen Muskrat in Cocobolo.

Very nice...

Question, the blades are not equal, they do have a different profile?
