Hi fellow knife nuts I just received my musso brrass back bowie from Journeyman Smith Dennis Riley, this was made from a copy of 1830-1840 style workings drawings. I love the knife but I made a big mistake when I told Dennis to put a black ebony handle on it, and it cleary states the handle was made of light oak. Now I have two problems leave it black and not be orinigal or change it to oak. where can I find a block of oak stablized wood?

My new Avatar is the Brass Back Bowie made by JR Smith Dennis Riley.

I would leave it as is and get another made. This will give you one to use and one to put up. Thats definitely one of the better Musso style Bowies ive seen. As far as the Oak, I have a nice piece of Oak that I would consider sending... this piece would not need to be stabilized.

RM: thanks for the feedback. and also thanks for the offer of the oak handle. My e-mail address is davidboone@hotmail.com and my mailing address is David Boone 910 Boswell st. Batesville Arkansas, 72501. And I like you idea of making another knife.

Thats a great looking knife.
Where did you get the drawing from if you don`t mind sharing.

IMHO I would leave it the way it is. I think it looks awesome the way it is. Maybe you could just get an oak handle on the next one.
