Must do knife mods?

So with my newly gained ZT 0350. I have been getting into doing things to knives to make them function better. Much like myself with guns, I tend to personalize things on them to make them more fitting for me.

I de-assisted my ZT0350 which I like, but I can't get it to open without a flick of the wrist. But I also would like to do some other things to it as well as my Benchmade Grip.

Anyone have any must do mods for either of these knives?

New scales and deep carry clip for the Grip. Benchmade will send you a free deep carry clip. I have the AWT as well as some Cuscadi CF scales and they completely changed how I feel about the knife. Much slimmer and better feel IMO.

I don't do any of the work myself-except some assembly, but I like to add texture scales to SnG CC's
I have one with the gunner scale and one with a textured CF scale by Mr.H(Barry)
I find these to have good grip when needed as well as a better feel. They also don't chew up pockets like the GG's
For me it makes the perfect SnG
(will try to get some photo's latter)

Yeah, I never cared too much for the scales that come on the grip. Something slimmer and possibly some G10 would make that knife a sweet EDC. Just contacted Benchmade about the deep carry clip, so we will see if they send me one.

Wave and de-assist.

:D

Take 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and smooth out the blade where the washer ride and do the same to the washers.

The below mods are almost a must:

- the first mod I always do on all of my knives is the sharpening choil/notch - just a very little one, but I think this is a necessary mod
- I also disassemble most of my knives and polish the contact surfaces for smoother operation
- sometimes I use 1200 and 2000 grit sandpaper to smooth some scale edges - G10 edges can be quite sharp

These mods happen if I have more time and I feel the need:
- I polish some of the metal parts with a dremel and CrO-loaded bit
- sometimes I polish the whole blade (for instance - the ZDP-189 Endura - that completely eliminates the problem of patina and rust, also cleaning is extremely easy)

Question... I did the de-assist on my ZT 0350 and I can't get it to lock up without flicking my wrist. Any fix to this or is this the way it is?

Grind a more acute secondary bevel if the original is more than 15 dps. Thin the primary if it is thick behind the edge. Yeah deleting any slight recurves would be nice. I hate those. But don't go deleting the recurve on a kukri.

You need detent work... Installing a ceramic detent ball and adjusting the closed detent tension will make it flip with authority =)

Here's my 0350... carry it every day - have done a ton of work (including above) to it but it's just about perfect now.

Very nice 0350 you have there! Is there anything I can do to improve the flipping action without installing a ceramic detent? What about polishing? At the moment, I am not loving my 0350. I want to love it, and I think a new set of scales and smoother operation would fit the bill.

You could try polishing the pivot area but for me the problem was the detent strength :)

Messed with it today at lunch for a little bit and polished the washers and pivot area and it didn't make any difference. I have read stories of people de assisting their 0350 without having to add a ball detent and theirs flips just fine. Wondering what in the world I am doing wrong.
