They say it is Macassar Ebony, which I believe comes from SE asia. I would have preferred it had been made from a wood that is not listed as "vulnerable." It is 3 5/8 x 1 3/4 inches. Made in Idaho. Is it genuine enony?
Those 112 LTs are hard to find now. I finally found one at a Boy Scout supply company in Chicago. Also, some of the colors on the 112 Slim Select are hard to find at a decent price (blue, red, chartreuse, and gray). It is funny how some of Bucks cheapest products are hard to find now.Thinking about it. I got the Legacy 112 this month which is pretty much a perfect knife in terms of fit and finish. Didn’t they have a giveaway a couple years back where you’d get a 112 LT if you spent $100?
I was aware of that in the ebony they use for the handles and the related story. They do not specify which species they use for the handles. Typically, the ebony that grows in the Congo is the species, African Ebony. It is not as dense as Macassar ebony. There are 11 species of ebony in the world. However, for the ebony on the ornament, they state it is made of Macassar ebony. This species is native to SE asia. So it is not clear that it is the same wood source as for the handles. Macassar ebony is named for Macassar Island in Indonesia.Any ebony that Buck uses is sourced from Camaroon.
Taylor Guitars co-owns a sustainable sawmill for ebony.
Buck obtains ebony from there.
It's a pretty cool story.
Look up " ebony project/ Taylor Guitars".
Yes, I bought one of the web specials that had no discount.Log out of your account.
I got one w/ my BOTM that doesn't qualify for a discount anyways.
They haven't even sold out the November ones yet, so I doubt it. I think if they would hasten the release of the December BOTM it may tend to sell out quicker, due to people potentially buying them as gifts. On the other hand, if people are not predisposed to buying knives (yes, that is an odd concept), then maybe they'd spend their disposable income on other Christmas gifts and knife sales would be slower. So don't know which driving force is greater. Anyway, I passed on the November BOTM and am waiting to be dazzled with the December BOTM.I hope they release the December BOTM quickly and it something I want so I can get one then
