I was wondering what people opinions where on the "must haves" for each of the mainstream knife manufacturers(Buck, Benchmade, CRKT, Kershaw, Spyderco).....which knifes do you guys believe most exemplify what the company stand for....i'm getting into collecting a little bit and want to see where to go
ex. Spyderco: Endura and Delica due to their long standing as the flagships of the company.

I'd agree with you on the spyderco line. as for buck i'd have to say the 110.

I think a must have from Kershaw is the ZDP-189 & Titanium Mini Cyclone.

Personally, I'd go Twitch II for SOG, although I have the Twitch I instead. I'd say the II pleases more people due to it's larger size, but the I was the 'must have' for me.

Delica... no brainer. Love mine.

The Kershaw 'must have' for me has so far only been the Chive, but I'd put the Leek on a more general list for most people. Yes, definitely the Leek.

For CRKT and Buck, I'll personally have to pass, as I have none from them, nor covet any that I've seen.

For Benchmade... if I ever 'must have' a Benchmade I don't own, it'd surely be the 707 Sequel. That's a nice looking knife...

My current EDC was a Benchmade that I 'must have', the Alias II:

Buck 110, Spyderco Delica, Benchmade probably the 710 (but I prefer my Mini Griptilian), something from Bark River, something from Chris Reeves (I like the Mnandi), something from each of the Busse companies, something from William Henry, a Randall, ... and then there's the customs!

Fixed Blades -
Camillus Pilot Survival Knife
Marble's Ideal (leather handle)
Puma White Hunter
Remington/Pal RH's
Chris Reeve hollow handle's
Randall Model 1, 14
Loveless Drop Point
Busse Battle Mistress?
Buck 105,119
Dozier (pick one)

spyderco i say the endura delica military and manix
kershaw would be the JYD 2 and spec bump
benchmade the 710 and 615 but dont ever discount the griptilians
the buck 889 is the only buck I care to own.
the CRKT M1 and M21 are good knives.
Ontario RAT 3
Vic farmer

these are the knives I think best define these companies except the buck the 110 defines buck but I would not own one. I just do not like them. the applegate fairbarns do the same for gerber but as a whole their knives have gone to hell.

I'd go more with getting whatever model you like, but try to spread out the brand/maker:

Chris Reeves
Busse (and their sister companies)
Strider
Randall
Fehrman
Fallkniven

Then, you can start getting into some of the more customs, and go nuts... :)

fully agree there. unless you wanna (try) to make money then its no longer collecting but investing.

dont buy on impulse... there arent many knives you wont like.
coz the day you move up to customs you'll have wasted a fortune on industrials. thats what i learned from visiting a collector yesterday... it was like entering alladin's cave! amazing knives, even the few industrial knives he had (which he is getting rid off now) are extraodinary. had a big grin on my face all evening.
im not gonna start about all his custom fixed blades... ill just start drooling again.
i reserved a nice Wilkinson folder :D
glad i didnt bring my stuff, i would have made a rightarse of myself.

just saying : dont buy every industrial knife you like. only buy if you cant find even a few reasons not to buy one.
