I have come into possession of an Emerson Knive which the box labels as an MV-3. I am seeking info on this knife, i.e., blade material and handle composition. Blade is satin finish spearpoint. Front 2" of handle appears to be blasted aluminum or titanium and rear 3" looks like Micarta. Rear of handle tapers down. Blade is 4 3/8", overall lenth 9 3/8". No info on Emerson site. Any info re: blade, handle, production status, etc. would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have custom Viper. Check out "Viper MV-3" in the Emerson Gallery or run a search on same. I'm sure some of the others will chime in here shortly. Nice score by the way!

Definitely a Viper MV-3. Thanks for the help. Any verification of bladesteel, handle composition, and original retail would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Viper 3s have been made in small numbers over the past 10 years, and are custom made knives. They're not made by Emerson Knives Inc, which is why it sports a "Emerson SpecWar Knives" logo. If purchased directly from Ernie (he no longer takes custom orders, btw), it'd cost you $550 these days.

Since yours is in a box, and marked "MV3", its of recent mintage, made post factory. That would indicate the blade steel is 154. The bolsters and liners are titanium, and the handles are black micarta. These have sold for $900 to $1400 in the past year, with about $1000 seeming to be the current market.

I haven't posted here in a while. That said, its nice to see members of this Forum score sweet custom pieces like this one! As JBravo commented, these pieces command a nice return on the secondary market.

In Usual Suspect terms, "You definitely SUCK!" :)
