Well maybe not that bad.. sounds like a small stone is stuck in it...

A quick google'ing reveals that its the torsion spring... people suggest adding a dab of grease to it... forgive my ignorance to knife workings, but a photo would be a great help. Ive never had an assisted opener apart... I am only familiar with BM Axis lock...

Thanks guys

best thing to do is leave it alone, doesn't hurt a thing. taking apart you just run the risk of causing actual problems, stripped screws, etc.

The grease will just dry up eventually and it will rattle again. I'd just leave it alone until it ever breaks.

Its really not that huge of a deal. You dont have to disassemble the whole knife. If you feel a lot of resistance like teh screws wont budge Its best to leave it alone unless you know what your doing. But if they move freely without lots of effort you just need to remove the pivot screw and the three screws that hold the handle together on the face side of the knife. You dont need to remove the liner or blade or anything. Not even the torsion bar. You can leave it all just like it is. By removing those 4 screws though you simply lift off the G10 scale. You will see and area that is milled out to allow the torsion bar to move. You simply place a dab of grease across this channel about half way through the length of this channel. The dab of grease will silence the torsion bar and If you use enough it will stay that way for an indefinite amount of time. And due to the almost sealed nature dirt isnt a huge issue though it is possible for some to get in there over time.

No it wont. Oil might dissipate or leak out but grease aint going anywhere.

What happened to the grease that was in there in the first place? When my ZT301 and 302 were new they didn't rattle. They eventually started rattling so I assume the lube/grease in there went away.

I think the movement of the torsion bar slowly pushes the grease to the edge of the area where the torsion bar works. So it is still there, just pushed out of the way.
