To my surprise my much anticipated #09 Esquire arrived after only 8 days. I have said before that small knives ie peanut size are to fiddly for my arthritic fingers and that is why i got a White Owl, a great knife, but gradually first a peanut then my ebony esquire found their way back into my watch pocket and much as i prefer the esquire to the peanut that ebony cover is pretty slick, so i thought how about stag ? When i opened the tube
my first thought was WINNER!! It fits nicely in my hand the stag gives just the right amount of texture and heft, even the scalloping does not look as over the top as i had feared. In the few hours i have had it and carried out my new knife washing. waxing and a drop of lube i am pretty sure i have got my new EDC for the foreseeable future with the addition of a SAK in a belt pouch if i feel i may need one when away from home.

Wow, that's a very pretty little knife!!!:thumb up:

I like small knives, but I also am having arthritis issues, and I fear that one day I may no longer be able to deal with small slip joint knives. But that stag looks like a grippy handle that will help matters.

I agree Carl. That little knife is a real gem. I have to admit that probably the only thing that has kept me from trying one out is the fact that I prefer a clip blade so that I can get my fingernails clean when I have to jump off the computer and into something like an engine tear down. Of course the secondary blade might work for that.

I could one of those residing in dress pants completely unnoticed. The Northfield model in second cut stag would be an amazing looker. :)

I ordered up that little #09 Esquire in Ebony about the second they became available. It is a little charmer.

I also own the #06 Pemberton and #22 Magnum in Ebony. GEC makes some great 'little' knives and are a joy to carry and use.

Enjoy that Esquire.

Those #09 are some real beauties, I am also a fan of small knives....and medium,.....and large...Hmmmm

Oh well here are some of my favorite small knives

I love the Esquire's. Great little knife that doesn't seem fragile. They carry very well and are a pleasure to use. That stag sure is a looker!

One question I wanted to ask oldmanrunning (or anyone else who owns a Northfield version of the esquire) is whether or not the edgework on this knife enhances your grip on it. You mention that the stag handles help but I was wondering if maybe the ridges help as well.

At first I was put off but all of the ridges and thought they might be a tad overdone. But after thinking on it a while I was wondering if maybe GEC didn't go that route to give a little more grip to a small knife that may need a bit more.

I too hate getting all that computer grime into an engine. Cleaning your nails is a must! 😄

I own the Northfield Esquire in Cocobolo. The coined liners do add a little more grip, especially when a blade is open.

OMR,
You made two neat choices in the Esquire lineup.
Actually, there were no bad choices.
The Tidioute Ebony is real classy and timeless, and the Northfield Stag has a rich and rugged look.
I have the Denim and the M.O.P. and take turns carrying these handy knives in my watch pocket.
Sometimes I carry a larger folder along in a belt sheath also.

Just got a #9 today from a member here and they are better looking in person. The coin edge looks great and isn't over done.
