I decided to wrap my 14 with the zytel handles to get a bit more meat for my big paws. I like using jute twine, covered in superglue, lit on fire, and then filed and sanded smooth. Then I coat the jute in boiled linseed oil. Makes for a nice grip and finish.

Looks very nice.
so you wrapped the zytel slabs with jute making them extra thick?
I have wrapped one knife with jute coated in fiberglass resin. It does give good grip.
Nice dark patina also.

Digging the retro look on that 14! Solid looking tool you have there! giggity

Very rustic, almost primative looking. Not bad, do you get any hotspots from the twine?

Now that is frigging cool! I don't know a single person who would hold that knife in their hand and say different.

Thanks guys! It makes it a completely different knife. Now I really enjoy using it. Nope, no hot spots.

Nice mod. That wrap definitely gives it a nice distressed/vintage look, especially compared to the stock zytel scales.

Nice job. Reminds me of my old 11, I did the same thing except with leather lace.

Different. Why did you set it on fire?

Burns off the excess glue and the loose jute hairs.
Seems like it would also work to 'cure' it more quickly and remove any moisture from the jute so it is ready for sanding. Jute is made from the same thing as burlap (which is sometimes used in micarta) so if you use plenty of adhesive/resin it should last a very long time.

Wow, that worked out pretty well. Thanks for the pic. That leather bonded so well that is almost looks like 'grain' instead of wrapping.
