Hello Blackend. You wanted to know how I like the 1740 ENER-G2. Well, I really like it. It is very sharp and has an uncoated blade Wonderful as I am not fond of bead blast or coated blades as this cut down on cutting efficiency. It slices cardboard with no resistance and slices basswood and pine effortless. It also slices cigarette paper easily and went thru newspaper like it was air. I like this knife a lot! God! Now I am in a quandary! What to carry the Mini Cyclone, the Needs Work or the ENERG-G2? Decisions decisions decisions.

Carry the Ener-G II... I love it too!!!! I feel the same about coated blades. Have you held a 1460 Splinter???? ;)

Yes I have. It is a nice knife and is a handy size. The one I had was sharp and lock up nice and tight but was easy to open and had a good edge geometry. I do wish the manufacturers would quit with the coated blade as i have found the coatings come off over time and look bad. And they don't cut as well. On the 1740 The flipper works well but I can't seem to get it to open fully ever time. I just need to practice more.

Thanks for the post RKH,

I too am really liking the 1740. I might move up to the 1745 just to see. Thinking it may be a smoother flipper.
It's great now that you are gathering so many. Rotation is always fun. Keeps knives sharper longer too.
:D

I carry a Mini-Cyclone (as well as a full-sized Cyclone), and I can't think of a better (pair) of knives to carry.

I am considering the the larger version of the 1740 and I think it is the 1745. What I like is the 1740 is so light that I think the 1745 would not be too heavy are larger as I thinks it is around 4 oz. And only 8 inches long opened. This 1740 has excellent edge and is thinner than some of the other Kershaw knives. I like a thin edge as they always cut better and are easier to sharpen. BTW, the people on this forum seem to be very kind and friendly and glad to share their knowledge.
best regards
