So recently acquired my first Benchmade off the Exchange. Its a 527 Mini Presidio. While ergonomically I feel most of my other knives blow it out of the water. The Axis lock is fantastic. My thumb has been sore since getting it from playing with it so much. So my question is what other models should I look into if my ergonomic preferences are usually found on knives with a thumbhole?

I had a Mini Ultra and thought it was very comfortable, I just didn't use it. I still remember taking it out of the box for the first time and thinking it was one of the most comfortable knives I had ever held... Everyone is different though.

You can look at the Griptilians. They are available with a hole, and are very comfortable. Another option is to look for an older AFCK knife. They have a hole, and the handles are shaped totally different from most of the BM's, but they don't have the Axis lock...
You might also look at the HK line of knives from BM. A lot of them have the hole, and the handles are totally different. I've read here that many are very happy with them.

They dont necessarily have to have a hole. Just trying not to say the company name. Seems like blasphemy on the other forum for saying anything other than that brand lol. It just feels blocky and my hand feels to far from the blade. My favorite attributes in a knives are usually a thumb ramp and finger choil

You can say Spyderco here lol :D

Unfortunately for me, I'm still searching for the BM that I find as ergonomically comfortable as my Spydercos and ZTs. I've owned 585, 580, 520, 1000001, 15020 BC, 300SN, HK 14715, and 908. The 908 and HK are the only two that have come close and the only two I still carry. Looking to get a 484 soon...we will see how that one turns out. Love the axis lock action, but most of them have developed some vertical play, which is disappointing for the price you pay.

Definitely a Mini Grip!

Try the 746 onslaught mini. Love at first grip. I too am a spidey hole fan. It's the best of both worlds.

Funny you should mention the 746. I just got one today at a local gun store and can't put it down. This has potential to become a favorite.

My one and only Benchmade is a 585 Mini-Barrage which I picked up about 6 months ago. It is now my EDC knife which replaced my A G Russell One Hand Knife which i had carried for the last decade or so. I've had zero problems with it a don't expect any as IMO this is one well put together piece of equipment.

Let me save you the trouble and expense of buying and enjoying dozens of Benchmades before you finally find the perfect axis lock knife. The 940 is perfect in every way. Fact not opinion. It's more expensive than a grip and many other Benchmades, but it will be cheaper in the long run to make one well informed purchase rather than going through the same blissfully psychotic process that I have over the last 18 years. 18 glorious, educational years of turning my paycheck over to Benchmade have given me the background to say that the 940 is what all Benchmades aspire to be. Good luck and I'm confident you will enjoy every axis lock you get your hands on!

We can recommend all day (and my plug is for just about anything with the Osborne logo.) If there's a dealer near you, pay them a visit and ask to handle a few different models. I did this years ago, and wound up liking a knife that I wouldn't have bought by looking at the photos of it. Good luck and let us know what you pick!

If you're anything like me you'll love the 484. I actually got the 484-1 and it fits like a glove, very ergonomic as long as you don't have monster mits. It also locks up rock solid, there's zero play in the blade after two months. Between all my fancy Benchmades I still grab the 550HG for regular carry/use most of the time. If you can get past the cheap feeling plastic handles it's an almost perfect knife IMO.

I , too , recommend finding a local dealer and handling a few Benchmades first hand. It makes ALL the difference.
