My 1st HI Kukri (M43)!

I just received my first HI Kukri from a fellow member here in the for sale forum. It's a 17.5" horn handled M43 pre U.B. by kami Amtrack. Pristine condition, looks like it's seen little use, if at all.

The only other Kukri i have owned was one of the cheap "authentic" Gurkha kukris purchased years ago. a tough knife no doubt, it wound up breaking about an inch in front of the cho where the blade was narrowest (after years of abuse i might add.)

Upon handling the M43 the difference in quality from the cheap Kukri i used to have is apparent as night and day. The shape of the knife is the only thing at all they have in common. I swear that the HI kukri has a "live" feeling in my hand, something i've heard a few guys here say, but didn't quite understand until i hefted one for myself.

And now for the bad news..........I think i've caught the bug, as i'm thinking an 18-20" CAK may be in order.

Now for the obligatory pics........

So how did i do for my first one guys?

Congrats:D:thumbup: The M-43 is one of my favorites. I really like the Railroad kami's work. I'm sad to see that he no longer works for HI. I have a few examples of his khuks, and all of them are top notch. You did very well:)

An M43 is what I got my brother for Xmas and he loves it.

I like the design too. It's a tough and remarkably agile power-chopper. Very easy to use.

GREAT comoflage work on the blade in the first two pictures!

Now, paint the rest black and you'll have a "tactical" khuk.

Read the safety thread, please.

Welcome from another first time HI owner but of a 20inch CAK.

Funny enough I am now thinking of getting a M43 next!

Seems we are both infected ??? ;)

Another one bites the dust...hey .hey!!!!
WElcome to the H.I forum and to HIKV.
Now get out there and help infect the rest of the world.

Beautiful M-43, it's sad that amtrack is gone.
I always wanted an M-43, but i keep getting sidetacked by the kerambit, dui chirra, ganga ram, ycs bowie, UB especial................
my first H.I. is a 12" UB Memorial Salyan Special by the royal kami.....i still have yet to find a khuk that fits and feels so well in my hand.

M43 is high on my list of must-haves. That is a very nice one you have there. It's like a liquid-smooth handful of chop!

Welcome to the forum, and to the HIKV peer support group! :D You'll find lots of empathy here, but very little practical help towards recovery. ;)

I own several HI products, but have somehow managed to not pick up an M43 yet. It has been at the top of my list for quite awhile now, but I've yet to make it happen. :(

A quick check also reveals the only Amtrak in my Kumar-heavy collection is the BAS I gave my wife when we started dating -we met here on BladeForums- It was my first gift to her.

Congratualtions on an excellent acquisition!

Congrats on your good sense. I have two M-43's, one by Bura and one by Santosh.I have used the Bura blade for several years in a heavy survival situation, including the building of a couple log cabins and numerous other shelters. There is no way I could be happier with those blades. I had one of those cheap kuk's once as well but not for long.

Now that you have HIKV your gonna have to come up with a kukri buying budget. It's the only way to support the habit.

Welcome to the club.

Great pictures, welcome to the forum

Congrats on the M43 and welcome to the forum. :) Thanks for the pictures and please take some after you have used it a bit. Love to see how the finish ages with use.

"Amtrak" (Raju Rasaili Bishwakarma) was perhaps my favorite H.I. kami. I think I've heard it said that his heat treatments were among the best, and everything I've experienced with his knives seems to bear that out. The blade geometries were also among the better ones, I think.

That is a beautiful khukuri. Very nicely done. Now, get to choppin.
