I've been lurking round here for couple of years now, and finally have the means to begin my collection. I picked up a 12 inch AK from a DOTD a while back, loose sheathe and a supposedly cracked horn handle that looks great to me.

Well I saw this video where a guy had a Kabar heavy bowie and he was splitting wood with it by 'batoning' it through the wood by hitting the back of it with another log. It dulled the blade pretty rapidly but I figured if I batoned using a 12" AK, it would not only work better, but stand up to the punishment better.

Anyways, I tried it with my little AK and it just laughed and asked for more. I tested the edge after a while and to my great surprise, it was actually sharper than when I got it in the mail. So, giddy with excitement from hopefully having a magical khukri that gets sharper the more you use it, (like the ones I've read about here) I beat it up some more and it got even sharper, finally sharp enough to slice paper.

So all in all, it's been great and this knife has proven to me that this company is as great as I ever could have hoped.

Also, I here-by dub my 12" AK Tillie, the little khukri who could. :D

thankin?

I am a long-standing, and frequently annoying, proponent of the 12in AK as THE belt companion for woods walking. You will always love it. Congratulations.

Congrats on the new blade. I've experienced the same thing a time or two with my Khukuris and hunting knives. If you get the chance, please post pictures. Enjoy the blade. My 12" AK is a good little knife. ;)

Listen to this man. He still owes me a big "I toldya so". I always figured that a 15" AK was going to be the best for woods walking. The 12" does everything you need and more short of taking down a 10" tree.

I've never had a khukri but I plan on getting one very soon. Does the 12" in this case refer to the blade length or overall length of the knife? It will help me in deciding a comfortable size for myself.

Congrats on your little ang khola. I love mine and consider it one of the most underrated survival and hard use blades around. For a blade the size of a k-bar you wind up with a knife that can do so much more

I was there watching you baton that little beauty, and I actually laughed when I saw how the first few taps sunk deeper than a full swing with my Kobra. Magic is indeed the word for that little guy. When I first held the blade, I felt it lean towards you a lot heavier than I expected for something so small, and I called it a blood thirsty little guy.
Well, on its way to me is my beautiful 11.5" AK, and I hope the half an inch off makes it even more magical.

Charlie Brown could have used such a blade to harvest his tannenbaum. :D

I reckon a 20" AK could fell the model of Stonehenge used by Spinal Tap if these stats are correct.
