I made my 1st knife today. I have a couple bench grinders. A 1x30 and 4x36 belt sanders and some steel. Long story short, I'm not gonna be a blacksmith as quick as I thought I would and I had some 15N20-very thin. A few hours, and I was ready for heat treat. To see if the treat came out right I gotta try the brass thing. Anyway-a nice propane kitchen stove and some crisco did it:p-then the sharpening. Flat grind. I started out with 220, then went to 320, then went to 40 Micron, then leather belt with white compund, then strop-:eek:SCARY SHARP!!! Warpped it in some nylon lace, and well here it is-my 1st knife/shiv whatever you wanna call it-it has edge, so I guess it's a type of blade, right?:p

You are way ahead of the curve dude... ... wow! Way ahead of my biker/tweaker knife mods with nothing but a Dremel. Keep it up :D

Sweet. Any convict would be proud to have that up his sleeve for a trip to the yard. (I don't mean that in a snide way -- it looks pretty damned lethal.)

Use some dress shoe laces, the thin kind and do a "proper" wrap. I think that the work you put into the blade deserves more than just wrapping the handle like that. I like the blade and with about an hour of work wrapping the handle I think you'd go from "shiv looking thingy" to a fine kiridachi that you WILL be proud of. Just me though. I think it's a fine knife and with a bit more work you'll have what I see. (if that makes sense.)
