I like it a lot of course. The bead blasted finish makes it easy to grip. When laid next to a CF Sage...the Seb is more concealable. Any non-enthusiast would have no idea what it is....plain vanilla wrapper so to speak. That's a nice change, although I appreciate "pretty" as well as anyone.

I have a question: Why the nylon lanyard? Did you remove yours? Why?

Should I remove it?

The Sebenza is the ONLY knife I have a lanyard on. It helps gripping it when you are pulling it out of your pocket.

Congrats! I just bought my first a few weeks ago, and it's already seen a lot of use.

I took mine out, purely aesthetic reasons and personal preference.

Congrats on your new Sebenza.

I only keep the lanyard/fob on knives with a very deep set/low rider pocket clip.

The Seb still has enough handle sticking out to grab it,so I removed mine.

contrats on the new seb. i removed my lanyard, too. It just got in the way, and personal preference. Oh, I also didn't like the lanyard sticking out from my pocket.

Congratulations on your Sebenza. As for me the first thing I did when I got it was remove the lanyard. Never liked lanyrds on any knives really.

Congrats! A Sebenza is the type of knife that continues to grow on you over time.

i took my lanyard off first day. Not a fan of the look of them at all. Plus they served no function for me at least

Congrats on your 1st Seb. You know it probably won't be your last one.

As for the lanyard, it depends. My current small Seb (21 micarta model) doesn't clip to the pocket as tight as my last small Seb. If the clip's tight, I'd carry it with the lanyard, otherwise it comes off.

Enjoy your new Seb.

congrats on your first crk. it will not be your last (i am sure).

it is up to you if you want to keep the lanyard on or not. i usually leave mine on for a little while and then take it off when it bores me.

Some people like the lanyard for aesthetic reasons, but its practical function is of course to help in extracting the knife from your pocket. I always draw my knives by pushing my thumb all the way into my pocket to the left of my knife (towards the "crotch" of my jeans), sliding my thumb to the right until it contacts the knife handle, wrapping my fingers around the clip, and giving the knife a good yank upwards. This works with all knives, no matter how deep they ride or where the clip is located (ahem, SOG Flash). It also indexes the knife properly in my hand, and immediately gives me a firm, correct grip- no need to slide the handle down my palm or roll it over in my hand. In an emergency/high-stress/combat situation, trying to correct a bad grip and search for the thumb lug is very likely to make you lose your hold on the knife.

For that reason, I have no use for the lanyard, as cute and nicely tied as it is. It only flops around outside my pocket, which becomes an issue as it could possibly snag on something and send my $400 knife flying away and rattling across the ground. Plus, part of the Seb's appeal (for me at least) is its visual simplicity and minimalist design. There's nothing there that doesn't need to be, and since I don't need the lanyard, I removed mine right away.

Same here, and for the same reason. I carry in my RFP, not clipped, and the lanyard helps hold the small Seb in place so it's easy to reach in and pull it out.

Also, I just like to keep my knives in their original factory config if possible. I don't usually change tip orientation or clip sides, I just use 'em the way they come.

I've heard the lanyard gives a little extra grip for people with large hands. You can wrap your pinky around it when holding the knife.
