As someone who always wants a saw on their SAK I've recently been thinking about the My 1st Vic Plus. For a minimalist, it includes a saw and the combo tool. I'm a little concerned about the rounded blade as faor usefulness. Anyone got one? I don't have the skill to reprofile blades.

P.S. Although I long for a Vic lumberjack, which also fits my idea of mimimums, they are hard to find.

It is a great peanut butter spreader! Seriously, I never ever have been stabbed by a knife by myself or others. I cut myself lots of times though. In my opinion the blunt point is hocky puck to reassure parents that their Bipolar kid won't do themselves any harm! A sharp blade is a sharp blade & will do great damage. Ask anyone who EDC's a straight razor!

Have you considered the Camper (which is basically a Spartan with a woodsaw), the Hiker (same as the Camper but with a Philips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew) or the Farmer (no corkscrew but very elegant SAK)? They both look minimalist enough, to me. And they're just a tad bigger than the Lumberjack.
I don't dislike the one you chose and a rounded tip blade can even be useful in some situations, but the combo tool (which I tried on a Compact) is not one of my favorite tools: it works well as a cap lifter, not so well as a can opener and it's just not enough if you find a screw that is too small or too big for it.

Yes, I have. As I've posted before I EDC a Rucksack and have for 16 years or so. On the rare occasions when it is too much I would like a little more than my Vic Classic. I will probably end up with an alox Farmer eventually but was looking at other options. I have carried sheepsfoot blades in the past I was not bothered by not having a pointy tip. It is just the look of that rounded blade that makes me wonder. Besides, I haven't owned a SAK with the combo tool, so obviously I need to buy at least one more.
Thank You all for your imput. Keep it coming.

LL Bean used to sell a single blade folder with a rounded tip. It was advertised with the exact same description - good for spreading peanut butter! It was also very sharp, so I can easily see the same setup. It can conceivably be a great "food" knife. Hmmm, gonna have to give this SAK a closer look.

My kids have a My 1st Vic, the blades have been reshaped onto sheepsfoot. It's a really neat knife. The sheepsfoot pattern usually does have a useful point, unlike the stock butterknife pattern, just more inline with the edge than the spine.

I'm thinking about getting one for myself, maybe a Plus, and shaping the rounded point onto a straight chisel ground edge perpendicular to the blade. I wonder if it could be reshaped into a useful One Arm Jack pattern?

I have one,I'm planning to use a back-up to the back-up when I go out in the hills.Yes they can be re-profiled to a One Arm Jack...one of the modders on SOSAK did one some time back.

You're welcome. :)

I've seen some complaints about the combo tool but in general people seem to like it. I guess it's a matter of personal taste. Let us know your opinion about it.

ALOX lumberjacks are up for pre order on sosak online too

Schmecky,
I noticed that also. To be honest I figured I was too late and the hardcore SOSAK regulars would have them snapped up. I'll have to take another look though. Thanks for the tip.

no problem. felinevet always seems to order a few extras of the specials they do there so if you miss anything, drop him a line
