My 2 Customs Arrived---Mixed Feelings

My 2 customs arrived today---sitting on my doorstep--the POS UPS driver just left them there--no signature--no nothin----thankfully both were there intact.

First---both knives are beautifull--and the BG-42 is ungodly sharp.

Second---What's up with the piece of crap sheaths???

I was expecting some nice leather and workmanship like the one that came with my Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110(all the more reason to get one while you can as they are best deal in 110's out there).

To top it off---the first insertion of my oakie into the crap sheath slid the felt puck down leaving a trail of glue goo all over my new baby---the glue wasn't meant to stick under any conditions and was there just for show---unlike my fine Cabela's sheath. Didn't even try the sheath with the buffalo knife as it is the same kind of crap sheath(I ordered tan leather with both).

For a custom knife---I guess I was expecting better.

The knives are great---the sheaths are junk.

Overall impression---somewhat of a disappointment.

I post pics as soon as I get the cam fired up.

That's concerning to hear about the sheaths... I just ordered a custom shoppe 110 with the tan leather sheath. I guess if it's that terrible I'll just switch it out with one of my black sheaths.

I mean---I've seen worse(My Bark Rivers come to mind---fantastic knives---sheaths--not so much--the lack of retention has me worried about losing a $100+ knife---its just a stupid pouch the knife falls in---no snaps--no covers)---but I guess I was expecting better-------those Cabela's knives and sheaths have really spoiled me.

The Cabelas sheath is nice.

Could you post a pic of the sheaths you received so we can see what you're talking about? Aside from the glue, were/are there other problems?

I always go for the nylon sheaths, and I've been pleased with them.

I haven't seen a Buck sheath with the old gooey glued on pad for quite some time. I think they stopped making them that way. I have several black and brown 110 sheaths and they ALL have leather in that spot. I have seen those and I would be upset too.

I'll bet a phone call or email to Buck will get them replaced.

They want you to be satisfied with your new Bucks!

The finger grooved one is NS smooth Buffalo

Nice choice on the knives, Omaha, they are fantastic! Sorry to hear about the sheaths. I am sure that Buck would fix you up if you asked.

Thanks----the pics don't do the Buff justice---the shiney-ness of it and me being a bad photographer don't make for the best pics.

Nice knives, Omaha. My Custom Shopppeee is oak as well with partial serration and finger grooves. My buddy, Bruce, calls it the crossing Africa knife. He says it’s all you’d ever need. I can’t argue. The buf is sweet as well.

I also recently got a couple of Buck customs with the tan sheaths. Knives were great, the loosely stuck felt pad over the snap on the sheath was more than useless. I resolved it by fishing the felt pad out of the bottom of the sheath, and glueing a dime sized piece of thin leather over the snap. It's a great improvement over the felt.

Ya---the Oak is my new EDC ever since I got it----the Buff has only been out of the packaging for picture taking.

Now that I've got all the black stuff worked out and just a touch of oil worked in---its tight yet slick smooth all at the same time.

Nice knives... the Oak appears to be Red Oak?

I will look into that sheath issue. From what I heard, we went to a rubber coated snap bottom instead of the felt pad. It might be that we have old stock that needs to be dealt with. It sounds like your not the only one with this issue so I cant say it is isolated.
I do know that when the sheath is new, at least the standard leather sheaths, they are very tight. For the first month or so you need to be mindful of the felt tab as you insert the knife. Then as the leather conforms to the knife, that extra step goes away. It would be better if we a)explained this with a note with the sheath or b) make sure we only use rubber coated snap bottoms.
I would normally just suggest that we get you a new sheath but I have to make certain that we have that particular sheath in house with the improvements. I will check and see. Could I trouble you to send me an email on this?
